    Hi,

I have a lot interest for X-Window ports cause they are a pore but real solution for missing programs on our preferred system.

I knew about some X-Window server projects by the past.
Does somebody knows what is the situation today?

We can see here a nice X icon on the toolbar

maybe his author can talk to us about it :-)

IMHO would be nice to have it not standalone but integrated into the system (having X applications opening windows on Workbench screen like if there are native applications, and using MorphOS window decorations instead of own window manager). However noone is working on it.

Sonic : you can contact Fab1, he show us an "alpha" version of X-Window on MorphOS at the Alchimie 2007. He has stopped his work on it, but the source still available if you want to continue.

Back in the day, the idea of "porting UNIX to MorphOS" was considered undesired.
In my opinion, I prefer to have our own MorphOS applications, and accept the drawbacks of not having applications from other systems. Perhaps I would think otherwise if I used MorphOS regularly.

It would be better a proper GDK/GTK port as most of complex apps draw custom gadgets using GDK primitives and a wrapper doesn't help much for that. A real GDK/GTK port would be easier than a wrapper to update too (because with a wrapper you never finish the task of adding new gadgets and creating equivalents for tons of methods).
