Looks like I'm asking a stupid question in your eyes. If it is so obvious to you can you please guide me instead? I cannot find a "clean up" or "snapshot" as I do in AmigaOS. There is no "align to grid" or equivalent? Seems to me MorphOS just saves the icon position when you drop the icon in a new spot.

On the desktop: select an icon (icons), press RMB, choose "snapshot".
But it is impossible to snapshot icon(s) in window.

Both are possible and work here. "Snap/Align to grid" is on by default in Ambient. Maybe you have just an old version. Try the up-to-date Ambient here http://morphosambient.sourceforge.net/ (nightly builds).

On disk icons i only have the "information" and "format" options. Guess thats because the icons are snapshoted on every movement. There really isn't a "clean up" option somewhere? :/

    I use 1.4.5 PUP version

Unless you prefer sticking to mui3.9, i suggest you use a recent ambient version. 1.4.5 version probably had autosnapshot enabled and was rather limited anyway.

Current versions allow to place icons on a 8x8 grid size, or at pixel precision if alt is pressed while dragging. Then you can just snapshot each icon (if autosnapshot setting is enabled, then you won't need that). And snapshotting icons in windows is also possible if you enable the "manual layout" option. Then icons won't be automatically sorted anymore.

Icons in windows are automatically laid out on a grid. If there is a way to affect this, to turn if off or to modify the grid spacing, I don't know what it is. I am using Ambient nightly build from October 2007.

Disk icons and icons left out cannot be "cleaned up" or automatically arranged.

After installing mui4 MorphOS wont start normally anymore. I'm just presented with an empty MorphOSLog and nothing happens ebyond that.

Edit: I got it working after manual install of MUI and Ambient from AmigaOS. Cheers.

Set "autosort = false" in SYS:Prefs/Ambient/Advanced.conf.
