    Hello,
I just downloaded the latest MorphOS port of Bochs
    http://www.amirus.org.ru/files/bochs_2.3.5.cvs_morphos.lha
because I think useful for me a Win98 in a box, not to mess up real hardware with this shit, to use some service
programs which run on win98 only.
I didn't manage to make it start yet.
Either launching from shell or from desktop, it prints out to the console
a list of options entitled "Bochs Configuration: Main Menu", then it waits forever for an input. You can type
anything and [return] but the console window seems dead.
No window opens, no crash, no log, snoopdos doens't
tell anything meaningful. Scout tells the application is
    waiting for a semaphore.
I started with the provided .bochsrc config file without
making any change (it seems good btw). I also tried
providing test disk image files, the same. SDL is
properly working with other programs. Anyone managed
to start it ? Any hint ?

Same problem here, concerning the latest CVS version. But the version on Aminet works after putting back the "executable" flag on the two files "bochs" and "bximage".

    The configuration is straight forward:
-First create a disk image file with bximage.
-Put the return values back in the ".bochsrc" configuration file
-Add your cddrive here too and you should be ready to go.

    Example:
    ata0-master: type=disk, path="media:pchd.img", mode=flat, cylinders=6095, heads=16, spt=63

    ata0-slave: type=cdrom, path="ide.device 2", status=inserted

BTW: Does anyone know good values for
    "vga_update_interval:" and "ips:"
    for a PegasosII 7447/1000 MHz ?

Try to insert any data CD into CD-drive. May be it will help you.

    Hi,

A 300Mb "Windows98 2nd edition" filedisk works, terrible slow with Bochs 2.3.5. I copied the filedisk first to RAMdisk and Bochs takes that. A Pegasos II with 512Mb can do that ! You must read manuals haevenly to understand the working of Bochs and the configuration file. By myself, i installed on Bochs version for Windows, and transfers the filedisk to the Pegasos. Bochs 2.2.5 is the first with boot CD-ROM support. Higher versions of Bochs becomes slower: 2.2.6, 2.3.x and finaly 2.3.5. Bochs 2.1.1 at Aminet is fastest, but runs only once "Windows98SE", thus to buggy. I think i use the 2.2.5 version with "Windows 95". The configuration file has (little) differences for the different Bochs versions. For instance, the Windows Bochs calculates the filedisk parameters itself. Most i read at the Bochs website, which has lot of manuals for the Bochs versions. Bochs from Amirus needs internet started. So i start MOSNet first. I like that's not needed, because MOSNet needs running first.

Thanx you guys for the replies and suggestions.
I will make more tests starting with the Aminet version,
    then I'll see what happens.

Curious thing, in the very short readme.morphos
text which comes with the cvs version the author
says "not quite tested but seems working ok"... ;)

Yeah, Aminet version does start at least!
Looks like cvs version has something screwed
in stdio - but I might be wrong.

I suppose I've posted my e-mail in the readme. 8)
BTW, bochs with bochsgui works for me very well. The only thing you shouldn't do is saving anything to config file from gui.
Starting "bochs -qf .bochsrc" from console will skip the menu at all.

Erm... yes forgive me but I didn't want to annoy you
for something that is more likely some mistake I
could have done rather than a program bug :)

Yes, with "-qf .bochsrc" from the command line it
starts but I didn't find any MOS specific instructions,
and I have no time (by now) to read the infinite
    official docs !

Btw, Aminet version doesn't freeze the console. I will
investigate as soon as I have more time.
