Which program is best with peg2 to convert from 24bits to 8bits(256 colour)?
I tried PPaint which seems to do a nice job but messes with system.
Like I can't open aminetradio after Ppaint running(can not open render.library).
After reset it is just fine again.
Is showgirls not able to do so?
I also tried with adpro..Execute and then render to raw and save as 256colour but quality is very poor.
Ppaint does a much much better job.
It even lokks like adpro isn't using all 256 colours.

The best Tool for true colour to 256 colour conversion is Xv.
Try if you can get that one running.

I like SView5 very much, it has many options and some operators are MorphOS-native.

ImageFX has nice color reducution algorithms. It was a bit difficult to use, but the results were pretty good. But it's a commercial software, dunno if its still possible to buy it after all.
