Apache web server on MOS behind Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro

    Hey all,

I'm trying to get an Apache (1.3.20) server on my MOS 1.4.5 machine to serve pages for all on the web.

I have Apache running and accessing http://localhost using IBrowse works fine (including CGI page generation, so the web server is really running).

I upgraded my Alcatel SpeedTouch Home to Pro a long time ago, and that works fine. Reading up on the Alcatel settings I need to put in to allow a web (or FTP) server on the local side to serve the web, I tried both suggested methods under NAT I could find: Forwarding only port 80 to the MOS web server, or setting my MOS web server's IP address as the defserver for all ports.

Neither seems to work when trying to access the fixed www IP address I have. Ping gives a reply, but my Apache logs do not show any access happening at all when trying to access the web page (or even telnet to port 80 of the fixed www IP address I have).

Do I have to make the Alcatel a bridge and get rid of the NAT in order for my MOS machine to become a web server, should I get something else than the Alcatel modem, or am I doing something else wrong?

How can I get my machine to become a web server behind the Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro?

If you are in doubt about apache+MOS web serving combo, you first need to do this with some other web server in your localnet, and try to publish this other server to the world, if you get sucess with this one, then you turn you efforts again to MOS+apache, i guess your problem is more a network+speedtouch+nat setup then a apache+MOS setup.

With some more experimenting I am now able to create a SIGTERM for Apache, causing it to kill all httpd's. Hm.

But I can only get this to happen after 10+ page requests for CGI-generated pages, I haven't found an exact cause there yet.

The fact remains that when trying to access the server through the www IP address (only the front page, which is plain HTML), nothing happens and the Apache log files show no errors and no activity.

Does anybody have Apache on MOS running as a web server behind an Alcatal SpeedTouch Pro? And if so, what are your Alcatel settings?

Oh, and as far as doubt on the Apache on MOS goes, it does serve it's pages on the local net to a Windows XP lap top.

Which TCP/IP Stack are you using?
Dont know anymore, which access rules miamidx can handle but i think it can sepperate lan and wan.

Maybe you blocked http (port 80) for incomming connections there?

If not, its quite sure that its your router, not forwarding (NAT) directly. Try to set port 80 again to ur MOS Machine.

Maybe the router has a access log (dropped/accepted), which helps you

I'm using normal Miami 3.2b (reg'd), and have never found any separate LAN or WAN settings there. I don't know about dx (but as I don't have that and it is not available anyway, that's not relevant for me).

And MOS server web pages to another machine on the LAN does work, so maybe I will try the 'other' way for NAT again, and sending port 80 specifically to my MOS server.

And I like the access log thing, I'll check the router logs (if any) as well as Miami logs (after I save them to file :P )

    Hi,

When i had a dailup internet connection, the internet account changes
some settings and Miami was not able anymore to make the connection. Then
i did use MiamiDX (reg'd) and was able again to connect to the internet.
MiamiDX offers more functionality. Now i use MOSNet.
