    please provide more information

    - what happens when you call the vnc server on your windows XP ? any message, error ?
    - what VNC server do you run on XP ?
    - do you have a firewall ? a routeur ? is the VNC port opened ?

Yes, we need some more information... For an alternative I can suggest you to try RDesktop (Windows Remote Desktop service)! IMHO it's much better than VNC on XP.

but you need XP Pro! how about Home users?

I've downloaded a RDP server for the Home edition WinConnect-ServerXP (7 days trial period) but it costs 299 US$!!! heck a little too much for my needs.

Any suggestion of a free or cheaper winXP Home RDP server?

    Thanks!

Yes, your windows must support it. I used to connect to my XP Pro box wtih my peg/mos. Will we be able to connect to Vista soon? (Hammer??)

You must check and disable any firewall-settings on XP. Otherwise you cannot connect from the outside to the vnc-server

Hm... I've never used XP Home, sorry, but I think it has the RDP server feature, it's just disabled somehow (maybe registry?). Sorry, I can't give you more information, since I don't use W!ndows (only a pre-configured school-server via RDesktop), and it's maybe not the place to discuss how to set your XP-box ;)

why not? probably not all the users owns XP pro (there are some "hacks" -see as tweak with components and registry- on the net to turn on the RDP server even on the home edition)

like this and ... oops just removed due msoft request :-/

Anyway your right....probably not the right place! :-)
