    Hi

I'm trying to sort out some of these small problems I
still have with my MorphOS installation.

def icons don't work for me!!

I specify my def icons directory to be on disk
in Ambient Settings, it picks up on the def_drawer
    and def_disk but nothing else.

Have I missed a setting somewhere ? I still have the
old fashioned saw def_tool but I don't know where that
icon is stored - it is not in envarc:

Am I correct in thinking def icons are identified by
extension ? filetypes work for me.

I'm using CVS build from 03.08.2006

    thanks!

Deficons have changed quite a lot. Now they're linked to filetypes. However def_disk, def_<devicename>disk, def_drawer and def_tool are still there for now.

So, assuming you have a correct ambient setup (i.e with recognition.db and working filetypes), it works like this :

let's say you have an audio/mp3 type field for your mp3 filetype (it's provided in recognition.db), then ambient will try to use <deficon path>/audio/mp3.info. If it's not found, then it will fallback to <deficon path>/audio/default.info, and if not found it will end to internal/default.info or so.
Check snoopium output and you'll understand better. :)

Anyway, you can use bladerunner's very useful deficon archive. It's already synchronized to recognition.db and icons are named and sorted properly.
This link may change, but take it while it's here : http://www.oli-hummel.de/temp/def-icons.lha

    Hi Fab,

Thanks for the help. With that archive I now have nice def icons :-)

I'm now looking for an option to stop Ambient making them look dark.

I think def_tool must be hard coded ? Unless it should live as
    application/tool.info ?

    Thanks Luky.

When I used Ambient CVS install script my old Advanced.conf, default did not get overwritten. That's why I didn't spot this option.

I had to restart to make this work, don't know why.

Well, after having most of the Work lost due some HD Problems (Yeah I hear you saying "backup" well, I made one, however most work was done in that month I didn't have a backup) I wasn't that sure to make them again.

However I *am* currently working on a new set, but progress is slow, sorry.

Oh cool... so you don't think there was a reason why *I* took them off from my HP, right?
Well, nevermind. Then keep the uncomplete Test Release, in exchange I will keep the full set.

You put them where your Ambient Icons are.
