I successfully installed Timidity on my Pegasos this weekend. All you need is the amitimidity.lha file from Aminet which comes with some descent GUS patch files. The 68K version is actually better than the PPC version since it has a GUI and doesn't lock up if you try to exit while the song is playing.

I also recommend getting some better GUS patch files from here (30MB ZIP file): http://bepdf.sourceforge.net/download/midi/eawpats11_full_beos.zip.

Now just look for some nice midi files made for Gravis Ultrasound cards like here: http://www.filelibrary.com/Contents/Multi-Platform/62/3.html

    Have Fun!

    Hi all,

TiMidity, "Ver.: 0.6 OS4-TiMidity ©2006 Alfred Faust" works if the
OS4emu is installed ! I created a new drawer named "GUS" inside the
TiMidity drawer. From archive gerontolibmid.lha, which can be found
on Aminet, copied all sound inside GerontoLibrary_TimidityPatches/Libs/GerontoPlayer/Timidity
to the "GUS" drawer. That's it. My midis converted from Shell sounds good. As of TiMidity is
in OS4 PPC programmed, the huge amount of sounddata calculated, goes
as much possible. Thanks, Ilkka for the OS4 API emulator !
By the way, Songplayer playes the best wav sounds.

why muck around with 68k and OS4 rubbish?

gerontoplayer.library is mos native and together
with aminetradio, you've got a gui that easily
    beats both of those mishaps.

Why go through all that bother? I just play midi files with AmiNetRadio, just like almost anything else (except some mods & sids) :-)

    Hi,

Installed Geronto player in Aminetradio, the provided music formats plays, except the midi's !
Changed the System:Libs/gerontoplayer/timidity.cfg to where the midi sounds are:
System:Libs/gerontoplayer/Timidity/ and outcommented the four lines:
    #source gravis.cfg
    #source gsdrums.cfg
    #source gssfx.cfg
    #source xgmap2.cfg
The midi sounds are found, but it is silence, the midi is not played. Snoopium gives:
pegasos.audio Config Process GetVar pegasos.audio Global Fail
I started the System:WBStartup/PegasosMixer and saved the settins, i remember this works
for a sound problem i earlier had. No improvement, please help.
All i want to say is, OS4emu is great ! Amidogs http://www.amidog.com FPSE playstation emulator, i can
    play playstation games.

    amigaharry,

Did you install the MIDI instruments as well ?

It says in the README they are needed as well.

    LINK

Have not tried it myself. Im not so much for MIDI sound files myself, feel it sounds little old... :-)

    Edit,

Installed it and it plays MIDI files fine :-) Just to point timidity.cfg to the directory containing the MIDI Instruments. The Old School music :-)
