    Ave!

I've installed MOSNet, and am satisfied with it, but I have a little problem: my old Apache installation works only in Inetd mode - but MOSNet doesn't support this method. I've found a newer version (1.3.33) on Aminet, I think it can run in standalone mode, but it didn't work for me. When I start it first time, it says, that "bad user name www" (I have configured it, but maybe wrongly), second time it eats 100% CPU time for 10-15 seconds and then says that has problems with memory allocation (malloc()), then quits.

So please, could anybody help me to install a working Apache? It is very important for me.

I use inetd from the amitcp 4.3 package which i run in the startnet script.
All my inetd based programms with fine with mosnet and amitcp inetd.

Ofcourse the config files have to exsist in the right folders
    eg. amitcp:db/inetd.conf etc

Ok, where can I get AmiTCP? Is it free or is there existing a demo? On AmiNET I've found only 4.0 demo and some really old versions.

The solution is: remove "user" from configuration at all. Apache won't re-login then.
Or install usergroup.library and set up corresponding user/group in /etc/group and /etc/passwd.

Hmmm... How are you going to manage your Apache then? :)
It's in httpd.conf. Just search for "www", you'll find the line.

Tested and does not work. The only thing has changed is that Apache doesn't write the error message anymore. I just simply quits. At second start it crashes the whole system.

What I've done: I had a working installation of Apache witch MiamiDX and Louise's Apache 1.3.27 in inetd mode (this version supports only inetd). The I've downloaded this package, and replaced the old /apache/bin/httpd file with the new one. Then changed the /apache/conf/httpd.conf: I wrote #'s before the user and group lines, and changed the ServerType from inetd to standalone.

Check Apache's error log. Once i have installed Apache under MorphOS and it worked. In the configuration i've described here.

I've remembered i had the same thing. I don't remember how i've solved this... May be i've installed m68k Apache... Don't remember. This has something to do with forking. Probably this version also works only in inetd mode.

    68k? It's more than 6 years old!
    http://www.aminet.net/package.php?package=comm/www/Apache_1.3.12.lha

I think this new one does not run in standalone mode at all. :(

1.3.33 runs only in inetd mode. Can't compile a new version because I don't have a MorphOS Developer machine anymore. Sorry.
