Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I've installed Ambient 1.43 (I have now one of Gunne's 1.42 snapshots, the one with Rave3D acceleration).

I've run the installer, told him yes when it asked me to install the loadwb, and, after the installer reported that everything was installed without error, I rebooted... Only to find the Ambient titlebar (at the top of the screen), showing the right date and hour, but NOTHING more!!! No drive icons, no toolbar, no background pic.

Fortunately, I had made a copy of the MorphOS drawer before installing this...

Any ideas?

Try to see if the ambient exe & other commands (loadwb etc) have the flag "e" for executable set...
Yesterday I had the same problem unpaking ambient archive with untarka. After some investigations I found that the unpaker did't set the right flags for for extracted files. So I unpaked ambient with regular gunzip+untar from SDK and all works fine...

Can you please provide little more information exactly which archive it is ?

Also as maurensen suggest, please try using proper software for unpacking the archive. tar or untgz.

It was also another person who talked about problem when unpacking.

Both untgz and tar did work correct when I tested.

untgz is to find here. LINK Third archive from the top (zlib)

Just write:

untgz Ambient_1.43.tar.gz

or if using tar:

tar -xzf Ambient_1.43.tar.gz

Yups, untgz did not set the executable attribute correctly, so I'm
trying again... If you don't hear from me again, it didn't work (so I
can't access internet!)
