Antialiased fonts broken

    Hi,

Antialias fonts seem to work OK but when I scroll a window, the refreshed part doesn't always render properly - the text is there but it looks awful (not smooth).

For example, open AWeb, view page, scroll down, scroll up. Fonts don't look good. I also noticed this on MUI TextEditor class so I think it's a generic problem.

Is there a fix for this (apart from don't use AA fonts) ?
I'm thinking to switch back to non AA fonts because they look a lot
better than the corrupted AA ones.

    I'm using MOS 1.4.5.

    thanks

    koan

Works here. I havent used old TextEditor.mcc for years but AWeb works here fine (but I'm using newer version than you ;-)).

Maybe this is the same problem I have when marking text in YAM. The
result is that the updated text looks "bolded". My theory is that some
algorithm assumes that updating the same text over itself is harmless,
which is not true any longer with antialiasing and would lead to such
    a result.

I wouldn't say that AA fonts are broken, it's more likely the way the texts are rendered by the class or application which is not AA aware. AA fonts require a redraw of the background before you can do a JAM1 (without background) rendering. Otherwise it tries to alpha compose the edges of the font onto the previous rendering which results into various glitches. This kind of rendering speedup only works for non aa fonts (not clearing/refreshing the background).

It's a feature of AWeb, TextEditor.mcc and other applications.

Even "more" gets corrupt text with a non AA font if you scroll.

I've attached an image to demonstrate the problem, it's using the Bitstream Vera Sans font that comes with MOS 1.4.5 as standard just to show it's not a problem with the AA fonts I generated myself. The top part is prior to scrolling and the bottom part should show the broken AA I'm talking about.

If I go to the attachments manager (click on the paper clip right of the post title) then I can see there is an "approve" box. Presumably an administrator has to approve attachments ?

Yes, you're right. My attachments in the other thread are not (yet?) approved, like yours here (I presume). And Targhan seems absent...

Not for me. I still can't see koan attachment.

Correction: It's an AWeb problem, with IBrowse I can see the attachment.

Second correction: Maybe IBrowse did something magic (!?): now even AWeb displays the attachment.
