Hi,

did anyone know whats going on with Ralph Schmids DVB Software? There was a poll on MorphZone, but with the crash of the server it disapeared.

I don't know, what is going on. But DVB software seems quite good idea to be used on MorphOS, maybe on AmigaOS and Linux. I was working quite few years at TV station as a person in charge of broadcasting. I know a lot about such software, what are the requirements, how it must work, what shouldn't be doing and what limitations should be avoided. If Ralph would like to get into this business I could help a lot. I could also help to sell such productcs. Maybe Genesi would support such project because that would get them to a whole new market. I was working with OnAir Studio software and I know that it have a lot of problems, so it shouldn't be very difficult to get better than OnAir Studio Software.

I hope that Laire will polish the code and sell his program. It would be useful for private use, and could attract some commercial interest on the MorphOS/Pegasos pair. Some kind of killer application, in a relative sense: it could enlarge our niche.

This kind of applications are needed to get in the front, in the spot light if you want. It would be best to gain adventage that once Amiga had before the "Winslows" took it's place.This could be the state of the art pofessional software if appropriate approach would be done.

The problem is not the software but the hardware. The Pegasos
is way too big and cannot be built into any slim decoders. Not
everyone wants a big ATX HTPC box next to their TV.. And the
EFIKA seems to have been turned down by the MorphOS Team.

Is that only the reciver's software or that could be used also for broadcasting?
Because I think that Broadcasting applications would be great opportunity for Pegasos/MorphOS platform as a low cost, high preformance video broadcasting system.

err.. why does it have to be "atx" big? Peg2 is microatx and can go in a small case - even some ITX cases work..

No Mini-ITX cases work with the Pegasos. If so they are mATX
and not Mini-ITX.
I was talking about regular HTPC-cases which are good for geeks
and people wanting high-tech home cinema. But for the average
Joe who already has a DVD-player and is happy with that an 80-90
mm high case is way too big for his needs - if all he wants is to see
digital TV. Why do you think slim-line DVD players sell more than
regular sized?..

Like I said, the software is not the problem here for mainstream use.

Guys, you missed the point here. It's all about software not the case or any kind of hardware.
Let's talk about the software. Can someone tell a little more about this software and it's purpose.
