K, let's say I have a non-partitioned, non-formated hd here, and I want to set it up with one hd-covering partition with fat32 as filesystem. How would I prepare and format this disk from MOS?

    *edit

errr, this should have been a reply to the "fat16 hd partiton to exchange data between MorphOS and MacOS" thread, no idea what went wrong :-?

Ah well, it's a new thread now; bring on the answers :-)

I dont realy understand what you wanted to say but YES I would like to know how to prepare and format under MorphOS a fat16 and or fat32 PARTITON so it can be used under MorphOS and MacOSX.

    Thanks for all your help...

    Hi,

Likely as you perhaps did on the Amiga, if you did that on the Amiga sometime ?

    # Install filesystem to sys:l

    # add filesystem to filesystem list in scsiconfig

    # Choose that filesystem in the partition window, tick mount, as you probably want the partition to be mounted automatically ?

    # save configuration

    # format partion in Ambient

    Good luck ! :-)

im not 100% sure what you are asking. Are you wanting a fat32 partition. Or are you asking how to run morphos on a fat32 partition. First off you dont want your morphos on anything, but a sfs partition it just far mor reliable. If you need a fat32 for another OS or for an emulator let me know ill email you how I would do it, but need to know what all you want to run first so i can tell you what you will need to know. FOr an example if your running multiple OS's you will need to have a boot partition i have mine set to 50 megs and the partition must be ffs. ok well talk to you soon.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere :-)

    1. I have fat95 installed in l:

    2. In SCSIConfig the drive shows up as unit 3. I select it and click on "partition". I press "add" at "FileSystem List", select fat95...and get this window; loading fat95 again with "Load FileSystem" changes nothing and I can't choose the filesystem in the partition window.

    Hi Stevo,

Just tried on a drive here, worked perfectly well here.

    Did this way,

1, In scsiconfig did click add Filesystem to the filesystem list.

    2, Choosed Sys:L/fat95.

    3, Coosed MSDOS 0, identifier 0x4d534800

    4, Then choose use

5, In the filesystem list is now presented; MSH : 0x4d534800

6, Then from the partition list window, double click - create or change partition, give partition a name, choose MSDOS 0 as filesystem, tick mount, then ok

    7, Save configuration, reset computer

8, From Ambient choose format - choose that partition - it says MSDOS hardfile something - just quick format or format.

9, Icon shows up on Ambient - just use as any partition.

Note, In smartfirmware you will see that you have a partition named FAT0

Note2, In Ambient Info window, right clicking the icon choosing info it says, Type: MSDOS PC-Task Hardfile

Hope you get it to work.
    Best wishes, Gunne

    Hey Gunne,

    Great help, thanx!

But...as it seems something has gone wrong with my test hd on a hardware level; I'll have to check that out before I can try your suggestion. Talking of Murphy's law eh? :-P

As soon I have the hd (or another one) running again I will try and let you know if it worked :-)

mmm I don't think that it will work on peecees later... pcs require an MBR... if boschs supports using hard drives directly you may try to create an MBR (it's the equivalent to RDB) from it.

    Hi Crumb,

You can create the disk as an MBR-disk in the Pegasos as well if you want. No problem, SmartFirmware can read both MBR and RDB-disks. So do as you prefer.

And yes PC's might have problem using a RDB-disk :-)

    Edit,

Actually, that was the Pegasos is about, you can use it the way YOU want.

    @Gunne

So how would you set up/format the disk as fat32 under MOS, but with installing a MBR instead of a RDB (<- which steps from your previous explanation are different)?

    Hi Stevo,

I dont know of any tools in MorphOS that will do that, but in linux you can use fdisk for instance.

Parted in Linux will make the disk RDB.

    Edit,

And so parted in linux is compatible with ScsiConfig in MorphOS, fdisk is not.

GREAT realy GREAT!!!! I followd your description and installed without any problems a fat32 partition from within MorphOS. This partition is seen now by MorphOS and MacOS and I can just copy data to it which then can be used by both OS'.

It's realy great to see all that can be done with such an excellent OS like MorphOS!!!

    Thanks again to all.

    Regards
