Is it possible to install that livecd without having dhcp in the Network enabled? And can i switch from eth0(1Gigeth) to eth1(10/100)? I can`t do the emerge sync, cos my Network is not DHCP configuerd, and i don`t want it that way.

    Hmmm,

I've installed the dvd on the first partition of my second (and otherwise empty) hd, by following the guide (http://metadistribution.org/blog/archive/2005/05/08/howto_install_gentoo_using_the#body -> server seems down, but you can get in from google's cache). Aside from installing portadge (server seemed down), everything went well.

So, I did a reset, but wasn't sure how to use the given commandline to boot, since I used a second hd with the dvd installes on the first partition. I tried:

    boot hd:1 /boot/kernel root=/dev/hdb1 video=radeonfb:1024x768-32 splash=none

but that didn't work, so I copied the "live" image to my bootpartition on my first hd and used

    boot live root=/dev/hda3 video=radeonfb:1024x768-32 splash=none

Okay, it did boot, but I got some errors about the hd being a read-only device, and it wouldn't start the GUI.

So what am I doing wrong here and what should I do about it? I'm quite a linux n00b, so if someone can help me out, please.

    Thanx!

I gave up on that myself. I never got past getting it on the drive.

Hey, that solved the prob :-)

Thanx Luky. Now, if I could find out how to get it to use my soundblaster instead of the onboard chip.... ;-)
