I read that the new boot.img contains Poseidon 2.2 but seem to recall 2.2 MOS archive having uhciusb.device v.50.10

When I version after booting with the new boot.img, it tells me the resident is 50.8 - anyone?

I also get a hang on startup with my card reader plugged in (same as in MOS1.4 and 1.4.4)

Well.. if you have problems with v50.8 you might try v50.10 from the
Poseidon website instead. But it also seems to go the other way round,
so if you have problems with the version on the website, try the one
that comes with 1.4.5.
