Overall, I think the new Ambient is an improvement. It does some
tricks that the old Ambient didn't. The icons on Ambient fade up
which looks pretty cool. There are some improvements to the panel,
such as the ability to make it a backdrop so it doesn't intrude over
the windows. List view is back and there is a thumbnail view for
image files now. It is more stable, too.
There are some shortcomings though. Icon handling is alittle wacky
now and you can't snapshot them anymore. Ambient is just supposed to
remember where you put them just like on other platforms. I had some
trouble with WBStartup items, but setting the DONOTWAIT tooltype on
all the icons in the WBStartup drawer fixed it. While there is a MIME
filetype system now, you can not edit it.
That is all I can think of right now. The problems have not deterred
me from using the new Ambient.
