Hi, I am a very old Amiga User that has been mostly focused on Solaris since I last touched an A1000. I have recently received an ODW and am working on the OpenSolaris PowerPC port now.

Well ... it might not break any benchmark records! It took 3 minutes 40 Seconds to build Emacs 21.3 in /tmp under Debian 2.6.8 as compared to 5:25 on a dual PII (yes it's a "2") 333MHz machine running Solaris B52 (very old now) - which is the slowest machine I have (runs as a low-power, low thermal footprint, Web server).

Hardware wise, the ODW has a form-follows-function look and you can tell that it's built to a price. I have no issues with that BTW and think it appropriate for the targeted marketplace. The PCI card retainer should be replaced by conventional screws IMHO.

MorphOS is very interesting & very fast. I'll be spending more time looking at that...any place I should head first?

Welcome to MorphOS! I dont have an ODW, but my Pegasos II is in a standard mid tower. I am also an aold Amiga user, first was an A1000 when they came out and then an upgrade to an A3000 when they came out and the Peg 2 when it first came out.

I cant comment on the speed with Linux since I dont use it. I would rather just use OS X on my Powermac for nix type things.

This is the best place for anything morphOS, you can also try out www.morphOs-news.de for a lot of great stuff. They have a software section and carry all the latest releases for MOS.

Thank you for working on the Solaris port. That is very cool.

As far as the ODW I think you will learn to love it as you spend time with it. Originally it shipped with screws, dont know why genesi changed that - but the case is well made and quiet.

MOS is blazing fast. Its very fun to use. Make sure you go to the IRC channel everyone is saying here.. KSirc is installed on Debian on your ODW...

Appreciate the links and the thoughts. Maybe this weekend I will stop by #morphos. I usually stay off the IRC channels as I never seem to get any work done when I am on them!

BTW, we pushing to open source Java too. First, PowerPC then the world! Sun is really changing the world with what they are doing. It seems Genesi and the ODW are right in the middle of it. MorphOS continues to impress me. Back to work!
