Replacing the PC with Pegasos

I am hoping that when I get my Pegasos2, it will replace my PC entirely. MorphOS has already got most of the applications I need, except for a modern web-browser (this is important for me for eg. online bank-accountance). My idea is to install both MorphOS and Linux (the latter mainly for using Mozilla).

Problem: I am a total newbie when it comes to linux. I have no experience in it whatsoever.

    Questions:
    1. Which linux-distro should I go for (I only need basic stuff..)

    2. Is there such thing as "a dummies guide for installing a linux-distribution on the peg2"?

    3. If not, any tips on how i should arrange the partitions?

    4. Is it difficult to make a dual os-boot selector on startup (morphos, linux..)?

    5. Are there linux-live-on-cd for Pegasos2 yet?

    Thx in advance!

    Hi

    Browsers for MorphOS:

Ibrowse is the most compatible (bank-services etc) out from my opinion. Voyager load pictures faster as it is PPC.

    Linux:

If you are somewhat familiar with Linux, go for Debian. Or if you want to compile gor for Gentoo.. :-)

    Partitions:

Easiest to create everything from within MorphOS, and just mount and format in Linux.

Its not difficult to make dualboot.

Above is just my opinions :-)

    Greetings !

Welcome to the club! Best thing for you to do is join

    linux.pegasosppc.com

    For a newbie use Debian

if you go to that site you can download the boot.img called

    di-2004.02.26

put this in your mos boot partition and you can boot it from the OF with this

boot di-2004.02.26 devfs=mount video=radeon (if you have this card)

this will then take you to a net installer - it will take a couple of hours with hispeed but its easy.. you can get help in the forums on that site.

Voyager may access your bank but Ib2.3 is probably better for that. Although with Mozilla it should work np
    good luck

This brings up the inevitable question, how long before one can run IE from within win98 running on Bochs for Mos? :-)

Unless there is some miraculous recompile of Bochs it will never be fast enough. I can use IE 5.2 for Mac OS on my Peg with MOL anyway!

    Thanks for the help, guys.

    @Magnetic
Should I install MorphOS first and set up the partitions from MOS, before i install Debian?

Newbie question: What size should the linux swap-partition be set to?

The bigger question (for me) is when I will be unable to do that... :-)

I'm trying to remove Internet Explorer from my Win98 hardfile (as it mainly just slows booting and general use, eats memory and makes system generally "less stabile")

Windows 98 lite installer seems to have some problems with Bochs, but if I will succeed some day, I'll sure tell you how :-)

    muckboy,
Installing debian linux is a piece of cake.. with the help of the irc-morphos guys(including me) ofcourse.

When you are done with the installation..(this a good link: Link), then do not forget to visit this site to learn everything about debian:
    www.aboutdebian.com
..there will be only one left.
