Try to burn with Frying Pan. I'm also having problems with burning CDs with Jalapeno but Frying Pan can burn normally (although it can't handle .ISO files).

It's a good way of finding out if it's related to the driver or Jalapeno.

I tried with Frying Pan, but the symptoms were the same(?) as VooDoo's.

Absolutely the same as VooDoo's:
When I want to use the USB CD writer, from the Jalapeno it is not possible to select the usbscsi device.
