    Hi there,

since i've exchanged the faulty DVD drive with a new one in my Powerbook MPlayer just won't play DVDs. Actually i dont even know if it ever worked on this machine since the drive was faulty as i got it.

MPlayer starts to cache and then just gets back to idle.
Here's what appears in the "Message" window of mplayer.

Under OS X everything works fine. It plays every DVD i put in.

Of course mplayer will play dvd. The problem is most likely the way you do it. If you take a encrypted dvd and open a random file with mplayer it certainly won't work, and it will show these errors, which is normal, since it's encrypted.

Just use "play dvd" icon or menu entry (or dvd:// -dvd-device ide.device:1 from command line).

Well, try dvd://1 dvd://2 and so on, until you find a working title (or do the same in title combo box in gui mode, upper right).

Since it can be a bit tedious, you can also try to enable dvdnav mode (menu -> project -> use dvdnav in GUI, or dvdnav:// in command line). That said, DVDnav is quite experimental in mplayer : it handles dvd menus, but has sometimes issues with playback/sync, because it doesn't support caching.

Since dvdnav doesn't cache, i doubt you tried it.
Anyway, try another dvd, maybe this one doesn't like mplayer (i played lots of dvd on my pbook, so it's definitely far from being a widespread issue).

i tried dvdnav. it ends up in long loading times and then in corrupt graphics and broken sound. none of my dvds work so far under mplayer. maybe i could try vlc. do you know the exact command line to play a dvd with vlc?
