I know it has been a while and thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions. After some long thinking and jumping between hunting the "silent upgrade" Mac Mini (which isn't easy) and going for the less visually appealing (for me) iSight iMac, I have eventually arrived at a decision to go for the Power Mac G5 Dual Core (2.3) - picture below is of the actual machine, personally I think it's probably the best option if you want good performance but don't want to worry about liquid cooling.

Now I think I need to have a good look around for an ATI card :)
