Hello all,

Not sure if this is just the hard drive dying or something, but whenever I create and save a panel/dock it disappears on reboot. I had a back up config (can't remember the file location now, but I think it was in prefs somewhere) which I can put there and that stays. However, any further changes won't stay saved.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem several times, but I cannot foundout the case.
And every time it was only on MOS-unsupported iMac G5/2.1 and Powermac G5 Quad/2.5.
On Pegasos 2 and Powerbook panel works OK.

With Powermac I had also problem, that he shows unregistered MOS ( even if was registred) - and in one case when it shows unregistered MOS, the panel stay unsaved with save.

But it is only one context I remember. Finally I succeed save the panel settings on Powermac ( state of MOS was registered this time).
I don't know if it is somehow related or it's just a coincidence.

Never had that problem not even on the iMac so I doubt that there is a specific issue with those.

It does seem that the write fails (check with Snoopium) which can be the result of a dying HD -> get an SSD

Or there is already a file there which is in use (and can't be overwritten) or maybe the directory is somehow write-protected.

The write error is unlikely - Powermac have new SSD, and have no errors (S.M.A.R.T, linux).
Snoopiun or debuglog is good idea, if we can repeat this error.

Up to now I didn't examine this, because it is marginal problem and I noticed every occurence until late - i.e. after reboot. Too late to check anything.

I had the same problem. Actually, with the panel, you have to save twice : once in the panel prefs with the "save" button and a second time with a right click on the arrow of the panel and then click "save the panel".

Not sure why and when, but at one point saving from the prefswin had been disabled, I already reenabled it will start checking for side effects in the next few days.

Mortal users will still have to wait a while till the 3.16 release...
