Probably a silly question but what is the best way to upgrade from 3.13 to 3.14, particularly if you have the Chrysalis pack installed?

I've read before that people seem to go for clean installs, but couldn't I just choose the upgrade option?

Looking to get this installed on my Powerbook and MacMini but I don't want to get it wrong.

I seem to remember many years ago (over 10) on my Efika copying the System drive before doing a fresh install. I don't mind doing that but I presume then I'll need to re-install the Chrysalis pack.

Any help much appreciated, as really keen to get 3.14 installed and be able to give Wayfarer a run out.

I have setups that I have just been updating since MorphOS 2.0 and never made a clean install on them, updating has always worked like a charm.

But that said, I've also never installed Chrysalis pack on them, so I don't know how that will act. I would guess that you can update them and continue using Chrysalis pack version you already have, but the problems might occur if you want to install a newer Chrysalic pack over it. AFAIK it hasn't been designed for updating, but only to be installed over clean systems... maybe someone else knows better what'll happen if you try to install it over an old setup.

I've just made a back-up of my 3.13 partition on my MacMini, so I think I'm going to try the upgrade route on that machine before I tackle my PowerBook, which is more of my main machine.

Also think you are right about Chrysalis. If you want to install it it has to be over a fresh install, but once installed a Morphos update shouldn't necessarily break it.

Just to finalise this thread for later reference.

I ran updates (rather than fresh installs) on both my MacMini and PowerBook last night and they were successful so I'm just going to do that going forward.

    Hi,

For the X5000, do a clean installation. the upgrade works very well on my powerbook but failed on my X5000 3.13 + Chrysalis. I had a little issue for the upgrade 3.12 to 3.13 it was just an issue with the screen resolution.
For 3.13 to 3.14 i had a lot of issues, mouse erratic, network issue, etc and at the end impossible to log with my user pwd.

After a clean installation all is working fine as always i can say, a great job again.

The pack is a good thing but papio does'nt have an X5000 for testing, and it is not a supported pack so it can introduce some issues. Doing a clean installation is the best way for having a good system.

Now i am waiting for the new version of the pack :)
