USB Audio - Jabra Engage 75

    I got hold of this device:

    Jabra Engage 75

    when connecting the device Poseidon logs this:

    Code:

    16:20:45| 5-usbaudio.class: Recording mode with 1 channel(s) and 16 bits could not be matched to an output mode.

    The device is visible in Poseidon and audiosettings can be made to have it as outputdevice.

    But when playing music there is no sound to hear.
    The device itself works with a windows-machine.
    Is there something to look at or any way to have/make the device work?

    For me, USB audio is still a WIP (Work-In-Progress) for MorphOS. I know some of the Dev Team say it's working as intended, but I get virtually no sound, or broken audio packets and a lock-up when I remove one or more of my USB audio devices.

    It really does need fixing, and should have been, IMHO, before it was released in its current 'half-baked' state.

    Having said that, there is room for some optimism if you read this thread

    USB connection is given, I can even setup AHI but device keeps being muted with MorphOS

    OK, sorted out, to have the device unmuted. It was a setting with "Sound"("Ton")...where Volume can be set for each unit seperately.

    So device can be used, but still sound is heavily disturbed...

    What sampling frequencies do you see in AHI settings? Unless you can match the frequency of your audio files, distortion is a given (because of AHI).

    Frequency is set to 44100 Hz, which works with internal device ("AppleI2S").

    What I observed further is: I can hear mousemovents. So when Sound is disturbed moving the mouse kind of helps to fix audio.
    But when sound is good, one should not move the mouse or type with keyboard.

    Entering text and listening to USB-Audio seems impossible to me.

    So currently listening is possible, but turns of any "multitasking" or other use of the computer.

    Please tell me where to look at or how to improve the useabilty of USB-Audio.

    Where would such hardware be donated to? Bear in mind that some USB audio hardware is not cheap, and is useful also on other systems, so permanently parting with hardware that I spent a lot of money buying in the first place, and sending it to the Dev Team, with no expectation of ever getting it back is not something that I for one relish the idea of. :-(

    @ Stevo - Not everyone wants to or is prepared to donate - give their own, often hard earned/long searched for, items away, but they might loan an item to the Dev. Team, which seems fairer anyway. :-o

    The problem with loans is that while you can do an ad-hoc fix for the device, you cannot ensure that it'll continue working in the future, especially as you add fixes and workarounds for other devices.

    Yes and that's the problem with *donating* is that you never get the item back, which you would do with a loan - if the terms are kept to.

    I've no issue loaning it for up to a year or so, but I'd want the item back - unless it was a piece of hardware I could manage/get along without, but currently I don't have that much stuff I can just do that with, or do without.

    It's not fair asking users, as a general request to donate, to offer up a piece of hardware that may have cost £40... or a lot more, so you can keep it, and in any case may not even be able to use it to fix the issue that there is with any hardware related piece of the OS.
