"Gate bracket"? No doubt a reference to the metal bracket that the card has to hold it to the case.
Here's a listing for a 32mb Radeon 7000 that could be modified that way. Its easy.

The R100 is fairly slow, but when it was new it still dusted the Rage128 (and I had the fastest Rage128 card you could buy).
