Hello Folks, I am new here.

I would like to install MorphOS on an X5000 but I am stuck.

A couple of years back I had a USB or a DVD and used MorphOS now and then, but I never managed to install it to the internal storage. That's why I never bought a license.
Since then I did not change anything hardware wise.

Yesterday I downloaded version 3.20 and successfully wrote the image on a USB stic using "rawwrite", however I can not boot the system. These lines appear on the screen:

MirphOS boot loader version 1.17
Select a boot partition:
* 1. HDIMG0: (boot priority 15)
2. DH0: (boot priority 0)
3. DH1: (boot priority -1)
Timeout, booting from HDIMG0:
Trying to load "bootcyrusplus.img" from "HDIMG0:"....
Loaded "bootcyrusplus.img" from "HDIMG0:", booting...

And then it stops there.

I can reset the system using CTRL-Amiga-Amiga, so apparently the system does not freeze.

I re-wrote the image to the USB using "dd" this time, but the results are the same.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Unfortunately I can not burn a DVD in order to try out the liveCD.

Any help appreciated!

Might help if you would specify the exact config, which GPU what kinda drives and so on.

Or just try another USB stick which might make a difference as it seems to fail at a point where MorphOS takes over from the bootloader.

If you have 2 Radeon cards, the other one may be picked up by MorphOS now - and if that one is connected via DP it wouldn't work. That port isn't supported at all.

We have already discussed that problem on discord some days ago.
I was stuck in the same place. This is not about the USB stick, it is a big which is Frank already aware of it.

And I hope he is spending nights and days to fix it... ;)

To make it short: we X5000 users have to wait for the fix.

In that case he might just download 3.19 and try that.

And wait for 3.21.......

3.19 definitely works!
But then he cannot use the latest Iris and Wayfarer versions since they require MorphOS 3.20!

It's a Fujitsu 00Y21L hard drive and a ATI 9000 Pro graphics card. I took that one out and put in a HIS R7 250X (I know the simple 250, without X are not suppurted) but the system didn't boot with any of the cards.

Only one card in the system at a time. One connected via DVI the other one through HDMI to the monitor.

The old morphos version worked with the exact same hardware. I very stupidly used the same USB stick because I didn't have another one available. I deleted the working MorphOS version (I think it was 3.14 not sure) and wrote the new one to the same stick.

It worked for me too, but to install MorphOS I had to remove the SD card where I installed OS4.1 and plug in a SATA DVD and boot from the DVD.
After installing MorphOS, I removed the DVD and re-installed the SD card with OS4.1.
My configuration is as follows:
X5000-20
PCI-e 16x Radeon RX 570 for OS4.1
PCI-e 4x Radeon Radeon X1950 Pro for MorphOS
SATA Port 0 SD OS4.1
SATA Port 1 SD MorphOS
If I remember correctly, reversing the SD card order in the SATA ports didn't work.

Apart from the fact, that I did not have a DVD drive, I cannot see any workaround in the linked thread...?!

Anyway. I hope, Frank will find a solution soon for the USB way.

You need to enable debug as it slows down the initiation and then on some machines it helps to get it booted.

Try disconnecting the HD where you installed OS 4.1 (that was the reason why it wouldn't boot).
Then try booting from the USB stick.

I see that you Primax have a x5000/20. And you Murphy have you a5000/20 or a x5000/40 ? Which have you both ? The latest one from BigFoot or an older one from A-Eon ? To know it, stop after the animation and enter in terminal/command line mode, then type version. If you have the latest one from BigFoot you should obtain on 3 lines the following text.

Here are aslo some addtional options about u-boot.

amigabootmenu_animate default 1:
Set to 0 to disable the boot animation. Set to 1 to enable the animation.

amigabootmenu_animcycles default 10:
Specifies how many times the animation should be played before the default boot selection is booted. Only has an effect if amigabootmenu_animate is set to 1.

amigabootmenu_timeout default 0:
If set to a non-zero value, it specifies how many seconds should elapse before the deafult boot selection is booted. This mechanism overrides amigabootmenu_animcycles, so if both are set, this one takes preference.

amigabootmenu_animcycles=1
amigaboot_quiet=y

Hoping that may help you a few.

Unfortunately, it does not change anything. Disconnecting the OS4 drive makes no difference.

I also installed MorphOS 3.20 on my X5000 and thats working just fine. It seems there is a known bug regarding a possible black screen when two Sata devices are connected. Today i tested with SATA0 having a MorphOS HDD and SATA1 having a OS4 HDD connected. I booted from the orignal MorphOS 3.20 media and landed nicely in the Installation process! Feel free to update your X5000 to the latest 3.20. Most issues found abov had probably nothing to do with MorphOS itself. If you upgrade from 3.19 to 3.20 and your network is up but not working, check the ENVARC sys interfaces, you could still have an old refence to the previous NIC driver there. Since 3.20 there is a new QorIQ.device driver. If you do run into an issue contact me on Discord if needed of leave some comment here.

With this Sata bug, once installed 3.20, can the 2nd SATA device be plugged back in?

Or does 1 have to stay disconnected.

Hopefully just disconnect 1 to install 3.20 and once all done, plug back in.
