(As also advertised on AmiBay)

Hi all :)

I'll regret selling this, but it's got to go. Sadly I don't use it enough to warrant hanging onto it, so this is someone's chance to own one of the very best MorphOS-capable machines out there! :)

This machine is a Japanese-import Mac Mini G4 1.5GHz "silent upgrade", and has the 64MB video RAM. The documentation and box are in Japanese but it comes with a US English keyboard and the installation discs for MacOS X Tiger are multi-language (obviously including English).

It includes a keyfile for MorphOS which I originally paid 150 EUR for.

What makes this Mac Mini special is that I have successfully overclocked it to 1.8GHz, making it one of the fastest G4 Mac Minis in the world according to the GeekBench charts (my username on GeekBench is parad0x):

http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/220498 <--- click here to see its benchmark

The machine has run stably at this clockspeed for a year and a half, and the temperature/fan behaviour has remained pretty much the same as stock speed. The machine has been used to play Quake III on MorphOS and Mac OS X for many hours with no problems! :) MorphOS especially runs extremely fast on this computer.

If, however the buyer is not keen on an overclocked machine, I am more than happy to put it back to stock for him/her. It does involve very delicate soldering, so please be sure about how you'd like the machine configured before I ship it, as it requires a fair bit of experience in soldering to change the surface-mount clock multiplier jumpers.

List of specs and what's included:
PowerPC G4 @ 1.8GHz
1GB RAM (upgraded from 512MB)
Radeon 9200 onboard with 64MB video RAM (as opposed to 32MB on most Mac Mini G4s)
80GB hard disk
Wi-Fi (Airport)
Bluetooth
CDRW/DVD "Combo" drive
DVI-VGA adaptor
Power supply (with original Japanese 2-prong power lead as well as my own UK IEC lead)
Belkin USB and Firewire hub (sits under the Mac Mini's case)
Mac OS 10.4 Tiger installation discs with iLife
Apple USA English keyboard
Original box
MorphOS 2.7 installation disc
Clean install of Tiger and MorphOS 2.7 registered, dual-boot
The machine will come with MorphOS and MacOS both installed on a dual-boot. MacOS will be waiting in "first-boot" completely unconfigured so that the new owner can create their own accounts etc. MorphOS will be completely fresh apart from the keyfile installed.

The keyfile will also be emailed to the new owner, as it belongs with the machine. I think it may still have my name embedded, but if this is a concern I will happily co-operate with the MorphOS Team to have the keyfile renamed to the name of the new owner if needed.

Cosmetically the machine is in good condition all-round. The top (perspex) is a little scratched as with most Minis this age, and also a little yellowed, but still very presentable. The aluminium casing is spot-on.

I'll be very sad to see this machine go, and I'm certain the new owner will be very pleased with it.

Asking price is £280 GBP shipped within the UK. Add an extra £10 GBP for European destinations - otherwise please ask for a quote. The machine will be shipped insured.

I'll be adding pictures very shortly, as currently I'm clearing my data from its hard disk and preparing it with fresh installations of the operation systems. In the meantime, I've attached a pair of screenshots confirming the specification/speed. :)

Many thanks for your interest!

Correct, I simply changed the multiplier jumpers. :)

Hello guys, how safe to overclock mac mini for it furher life ? I have mac mini g4 1.5 Ghz silent upgrade, but i'm thinking is game wort it ? i'm afraid increasing cpu speed of mac mini to 1.8 Ghz will cause to burn it some time after (half-one year of working). How long are you using overclocked minics ? Does it succesfully work during 1-2 years ?
