I can confirm the G5 is a bit picky when it comes to PCI USB cards. From what I've tested NEC is the way to go, but not all NEC based cards work (I can recommend Belkin F5U220CW). On the other hand - there are some cards that cause conflict with onboard USB ports, or even make the computer refuse to power up.
