I doubt many owners will want to part with just thier copper heat sink, which I think only came on the 1.42GHz G4 PowerMacs (my 1.25GHz Dual G4 PMac does not have the copper version of the heat sink). It would be nice to find a source for these, or a third party equivalent, so owners that want to attempt overclocking their 800MHz to 1.25GHz G4 PowerMacs to 1.5GHz and higher would feel safer using the better copper heatsink, instead of the sheet-metal, or cast aluminum heatsinks that came stock on their slower G4's.

800Mhz to 1.25Ghz ? You have to put your mac in the freezer for that I think.

I'm afraid you misunderstood. The structure of his sentence indicates that he refers to overclocking from an initial clock frequency in the range between "800MHz to 1.25GHz" to a final clock frequency of "1.5GHz and higher", not from "800Mhz to 1.25Ghz". Of course, that doesn't make it more realistic. Overclocking from 800 MHz to 1.5 GHz is a pipe dream for sure, even more than overclocking from "800Mhz to 1.25Ghz".

Well anyway ... I think the cast aluminium is good enough when you make sure that the fans are blowing towards the heatsink instead of trying to suck air trough it like it does with the Quiksilver.
Also when you removed that heatsink once you have to clean up both the bottom of the heatsink as well as the cpu where it contacts the heatsink. Apple used some kind of adhesive pad that you should replace with quality thermal paste.
IF you really want to have the best contact surface, you could get yourself some automotive valve grinding paste and skim the heatsink on a glass surface.

Ofcours I am not sure how it all works in an MDD ... never had one like that so far.

Not at all. Let the rest of us know if you find a source for them. I did see one for auction on eBay about a month or two ago, but it was fairly expensive. You might be lucky to find one there again, as some eBay sellers are quite happy to completely dismantle a computer system, if they think they can get more money that way, or if they have repeatedly been unsuccessful in selling a computer as a whole and think that the only way they can recoup any money from the system is to sell some, or all of it's parts.

There some honkong / china based Ebay sellers that apparantly don't do anything else as dismantling Powermac G4 & G5. I bought Radeon 9000 128MB from one of them and it was in BElgium in 3 days, so they are to be trusted. I think it's worth of sending them an email even when they don't list it.
