I'm looking for a Powerbook. It must be the top model with 1,67 GHz, 17" (128 MB+ VRAM) and 1 GB RAM. Fully working, no flaws except cosmetic ones, HDD size less important. With or without registered MorphOS. I pay well for a good machine.

That's not that important. I don't think 1680x1050 on an 17" is such a good idea anyway.

I have the same machine, great, 17 inch is no problem for the resolution IMHO.

I also have a 17" PowerBook with the 1680x1050 resolution and think it is great! The best PowerBook ever made, unless you don't like the size and weight and prefer a 15", or smaller laptop computer. Mine is not for sale, but good luck with your search and get the higher resolution model if you can.

The plan is to use it as a more portable version "desktop" for going abroad and to Amiga happenings. I have a G5, but it's too big to carry around of course. I also have an 12" Ibook, which is great when you are on the go but too small to use as a main system. This is a good middle way I think :-)

Well, we just found a hi-res M9970LL/A over here for Johannes last night, so he will have his computer soon.
While I'm satisfied with the much lower resolution of my 14 inch iBook, I do envy that extra vram.

The PowerBook we found Johannes (Yasu) is a Hi-Res 1.67 GHz model with 2GB of DDR2 memory.
Except for one faulty USB port, everything seems to be in great shape.
The cost was a bit high at $250, but the higher resolution display is stunning.

I will be swapping out the hard drive for a 250GB Western Digital drive this weekend and installing MorphOS.
Then we will arrange shipping to Sweden.

As these laptops are cheaper in the US, even with shipping to Europe they are pretty economical.

While PowerMac G4 and G5 systems are also dirt cheap here, the higher weight makes shipping impractical.

250$ is okish, but surely not cheap for a partly broken 5.9......

The last one I bought locally was 100Euro and it only 1 missing key and some major missing paint near the trackpad, rest was near mint.

Actually I only needed a replacement display for mine, and swapping the whole topcase is much easier than prying it open to just change the display. That and that a display would also been near to 100Euro ;)

So now I have every spare part except display and KBD for a 5.9 and if Yasu feels like opening his, I could offer him the right or left module (for fixing the USB issue) at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the offer. One USB is broken, but the machine comes with a PCMCIA USB card with 4 ports that I hope works with MorphOS. If not, it doesn't matter. USB hubs are cheap anyway :-)

But if it's too much of a hassle, I'll take you up on that offer.

I have been using the system since last night and I will admit this is the nicest PowerBook available for MorphOS.

AFAIK nothing but the Atheros-driver is supported on the PCMCIA, so no luck with that USB card.

As to the USB module, you could try to connect a powered USB-hub or HD onto the broken port. If anything appears in Poseidon (even if not working) there is a near 100% chance that swapping out the module will help.

If the port is completly dead there is also the possibility that the error is on the motherboard (I would still put my money on the USB-module, but you never know.....).

A USB hub should be a practical option.
When do you think the native wireless capability will be fully supported?

Good price on a similar computer in Germany.

Is there a guide on setting up a MorphOS bootable USB flash drive and installing the OS via that?
It would save me some trouble.

Both Johannes and Wiktor Glowacki (Pampers) have bought PowerBooks that are sitting on my living room coffee table at this moment.
These high res models are NICE!

    Hi-res G4 laptops and G5 towers.
We have some nice (and economical) hardware at our disposal right now.
