The $100 Challenge

With the help of our Donors, enough surplus exists to consider running a test bounty of sorts. Instead of opening up the floodgates to yet more book-keeping, It's time to try a $100 Challenge!

This, however, cannot be done without serious input from you, the users and developers. Since this will be $100 only, and no ongoing bounty--we shouldn't get into any tremendously large projects. Let's have some suggestions, then I'm guessing a good old fashioned poll will get this kind of thing started.

Amigabase en MuiBase are free now. And also the source.
Porting it to Morphos? It is now already usable for Morphos, so porting can't be a real problem. (I guess...)

Good ideas, those. Database apps to be ported and finishing off USB2 drivers. We do need some more ideas to go along with those as well. Just remember that we need to keep things simple. Since I do not know the status of the USB2 driver or the author's motivation--I cannot say for sure whether that will happen or not, so keep ideas coming. ;-)

I'll throw in one myself, even if it isn't too terribly useful: How about a script-builder for Mencoder that could be used to convert movie formats and to embed soft-subs into the video-stream "hardcoded"? Shouldn't be too hard to do, and if using a recent mencoder version--it should support things like OGM and MKV and encoding methods like XviD, DivX, and WMV. The scriptbuilder could then either launch the file or output the file to an editor.

Well, it's already been done quite a few times, and you might even be able to use several of them directly if you have the SDK installed (most of them are simple shell scripts), check f.ex. freshmeat.net...

I'd like to suggest an Ambient theme compo! Winner appointed by a MZ Jury, and/or by a poll among MZ members!

    60% to the winner ($60)
    25% to the 2:nd place ($25)
    15% to the 3:rd ($15)

    :-D

Edit: As our Webmaster said - a static $100 isn't a lot, and it ain't growing. And some people are making themes anyway, so why don't put up a formal competition for once; For money (as a spice in the context) but *mostly* for the honour, where a certain set of rules are formulated (regarding real usability, estetics, "professionalism", etc (any requirements/wishes can be specified in the rules)).

    What do you think?

The catweasel is insanely expensive for what you get. I think a better idea would be to work with a company that manufactures usb floppy drives and make an fpga based controller card for them that can read the old amiga floppies. Then maybe work with Cloanto to bundle some cool 'Amiga Forever' software with the kit, and sell the complete product on amazon.com

Who knows, I might bounty project sometime.

What about streaming video (Real player or Windwos player). When you forget to program the video you
can see most of programs later on www.uitzendinggemist.nl. (in the Netherlands)
It would be nice if there would be a MPlayer-like program to see that sort of TV- programs on internet with Moprhos.

    regards, Tom

having a MorphOS decss library would be amazing. I know someone who could port VLC mediaplayer if we could have that lib on MOS.

Hey I kinda like the ambient compo idea!!! That's a neat one! We could maybe also have a person at a show somewhere for a compo like this to present the "winning" ambient.... Hmmm...

MPlayer has had that lib (libmpdvdkit2 (which basically is libdvdread + libdvdcss)) for quite a few years already, does that mean you'll send $100 to Nico? ;)

Anyway, now you know where to point your friend for his VLC port...
