This poll follows the other one, and again it isn't a "hurry up" for 1.5. Since we at MorphZone are unsure of the status of any third party projects regarding this, we will have requirement, and stiff ones, for this one.

This project must be either (bsd style) open source, or have the source donated to the MorphOS Team. In whichever case, the MorphOS Team must be able to take the source and make it their own.

It must be 100% compatable to Installer 43.3, and we (morphzone) really don't care WHO we pay. We'll start this bounty off at $100 too. This new bounty is also possible from the same benefactor (BugeyeD <- thanks again!).

While I read this in a thread that is about bounties .. :) How about fixing some of the more crass spelling mistakes at https://morph.zone/modules/bounty/bounty_view.php?mychoice=ezTCP ? :)

A proper installer is a must. This is a good bounty.

Well sure, why the heck not? I know a lot of people would like it working correctly for MOS.

I'm all for an installer ... but not a port.
    I'd prefer a "all-in-one" feeling !
(MorphUP(update manager) downloads when it finds an installscript then InMorph(installer) installs and then AppMorph(launch-bar/tool) is setup for easy access of the app)

For compatibility the Aminet-Installer is enough.

I must concur with Robin, the aminet installer seems to do a good job, so why spend money/time/effort to have a native one (JIT is wonderful, isn't)?

So if we must go for a new installer, let's go a really modern one, not "just a port".

Good backwards compatibility is a must-have in any "installer" clone. And that has been the problem with all installer clones I tried on classic amiga.

And how would it be better than the 68k version? Look better? New options?

I think it might be better to have 68k installer for backwards compatibility and maybe create a new & better (&different) installer from scratch.

On the other hand, I like programs that don't need installer at all, programs that you can just unarchive and run :-)

Well, the make believe option #4 was, "no, never. Any proper application needs to be installed by a simple drag and drop of the directory." Which, for the most part, I agree with. However, too many old apps need an installer, and I consider it a basic functionality.

@AmigaGuide Bounty: Great Idea. Should that be put up for a vote?

@Gelb: Thanks for the spellcheck, will get right on that ;-)

Applications that can really be installed with a d&d are very few. Usually, if it works, it is because of the needed components are already present in the system. Just a simple catalog must be copied in locale:language/catalogs (don't say it can be in PROGDIR:, because of when I did it, many people said it sucks :)

    Why suck?
They can be left in PROGDIR:locale/catalogs, PROGDIR:catalogs or something similar like that.

In My opinion: Let someone develop a new installer, the 68k version is fine for backwards compatability... Since Morphos is looking forward... Maybe even Qbox?? ( Remember That.) Why not begin to develop software that adds functionallity without regard to the legacy "Installer." The current Aminet Installer does fine.

    1. It is possible to build a new modern installer 100% compatible with Commodore's one. I've already thought about it.
    2. AROS has some codebase to start with.

Well, agree on something. As i see, there is Firewire task, there is Installer task... I would really like to pick something up.
I repeat the question: where is Targhan? Why isn't the page updated?
