Two days ago I tried to install SCANdal on the MacMini G4, in order to see if my multifunction Printer Epson Expression Home XP-302 will work with that, but I got an error of missing URLText.mcc.

It was correctly installed, so before to make usual checks i tried other functions of the printer...

    Oh well, good!

Embedded SD Card reader works perfectly and i mounted SD card from my Kodak Camera....

A rapid look on printer preferences just for curiosity... and....

What? Recognized as EPSON C84??? Oh sweet! Let's get trying

    YAY! What a pleasant surprise...

Even with a maximum of 720x1440 DPI maximum resolution of C84out of 5760x1440 that is capable XP-302, it works perfectly!

(I just tried 720x720 to save ink cartridges)

    Install scandal?
Latest SCANdal version is included in Morphos in Application directory.

Even more confusiing is that URLText.mcc is - as well as Scandal - already included and oomes ready to use with MorphOS-.

I am on 2.7 and whole MOS system was installed by Prof. Peruggi who was previous owner of MacMini G4.
I made no modifies to ancient installatios as it worked flawlessly to me.

I found SCANdal in his "work:" partition under "graphics" directory.

He installed it but he never used it. Mine is first attempt to run this software on that machine.

I said it misses URLtext.mcc and this is the class that I downloaded and installed.

Before you ask me, I still not installed 3.X as I need first an external media storage to save my data as I want to reformat MacMini and make a dual boot with MacOS X.

BTW my problems with SCANdal are not relevant as I am confident I will discover what is wrong with it by looking at snoopium output.

I just want to share with you people that at least this usb printers family works with our system.

AFAIK, many multifunction-devices can print via wireless but can't scan via wireless and you need to connect them via USB for scanning functionality ...

@ Xyphoid: I believe that we still need usb connection to scan...

At least until complete WiFi settings will be available thru 3.6.

But also I wondee if a wifi scanner could be viewed thru SMBFS.

Wifi or not does not matter.

If the printer/scanner is connected to your network you can access it, even if your computer is connected via ethernet cable and the printer via wifi, or both via wifi or none.

The only difference would be if the printer is creating its own network, which means own SSID, etc. This would only make sense for printers at public places, as you would need to reconfigure your computer/handy for printing and scanning, while loosing any other connection.

My printers are connected via LAN and I am even able to print via AirPrint, LPD/LPR and Direct protocol, without any issue from any device.

    @raf,

Where have you find from the turboprint driver for your epson printer ? At the beginning of october 2011 zedonet had provided on aminet an unofficial update of turboprint. Here is what they said in the readme.

On 3 french forums, amigaimpact, meta-morphos and amiga-ng, I wrote a subjet related to this new with the link to the archive on aminet. At the beginning of this year, or automn of last year, I wanted to make trial prints. I have been searching the archive on aminet but in vain because it is no more there.

Who decided to remove this archive from aminet ? Aminet administrators or maintainers, zedonet themselve or a third party ? And especially why ?

While this archive is not on Aminet anymore, you can see from the Wayback Machine that the Aminet upload was not done by ZEDOnet but by Stefan 'polluks' Haubenthal. And you can also see that the archive on Aminet itself did not contain any TurboPrint update but just a small AmigaDOS script that downloads the then-recent Linux version of TurboPrint from ftp://ftp.zedonet.com/tp2/ and copies from there the printer description files and colour definitions. That's all there is to it.
You can do all this yourself by hand easily and even use a way more recent version of Linux TurboPrint (2.33 instead of 2.21).

    UPDATE:

I have installed 3.5.1 and here some new tests I did.

    1) SCANdal works now, but it does not see the scanner embedded into Epson XP-302. I installed Epson2.device in devs, but SCAndal just says it can't find device number "0".

    2) Printing with epson XP-302 works better in 720x720 while at higher resolution DPI (720x1440), it mangles the images as they were made with oil-paint effect. Also fonts are full of ink speckles. not good for the printer jets.

    EXTRA:

    3) I tried an old webcam creative with program Sonix, but it was not seen by it, or it needs some dependaecies that i don't know.

    4) Bamboo Touch & Fun now works in part.

it sees the entire surface of the desktop 1024x768 (with 2.7 it stopped scrolling mouse abruptly in the middle of the screen), but works only in TOUCH mode moving mouse cursor with the finger. To draw it requires service buttons to be pressed. Not a very handy situation.

    Stylus does not work.

Using Yomgui program WACOMFIX:ELF has the direct effect to stop the tablet working. =_=

    that's all for now people.

It does not make sense to report problems unrelated to epson printers in a epson printer thread, unless you want them ignored. We have said plenty of times that we have a bug report form inside MorphOS for that.

It is not a matter of buying unsupported scanner.

I purchased this printer for my father to using it with PC-Wintel, and now I am testing it if works on MorphOS.

it was a surprise that at least it prints.

However Epson Expression XP-302 scanner-printer shares more or less same mechanics and electronics of all 302-305 etc. Epson series, included professional one Workforce 310 that is at the end of the SANE2 list that you posted...

(i read the SANE2 list BEFORE connecting it to MorphOS, either I had not even made an attempt and i had asked my brother who owns an Epson Perfection 1650 scanner).

However IMHO there are not many changes of features from Workforce SOHO class to Expression home printers class, just except the fact that components in WorkForce are more robust.

Both printer classes print at maximum of 5760x1440 dpi and both have same scanner resolution at 1,200\dpi x 2,400\dpi (Horizontal x Vertical) and both scanners is CIS technology scanning.

Just think the fact that if you read specs of Epson printers, they all share the same technology, despite of the price.
It truly seems all have have same electronics and mechanics, as you can see from their form, and print feed slide, except they have different cases and manufacturing .

The fact that Epson C-84 printer driver still is capable to pilot my Expression XP-302 makes me wonder that changes in internal language of Epson printers are very few, so a fortiori, it must be true for the scanners too...

So it is strange that Workforce 310 is reported to be supported "GOOD" in the SANE list, and my Expression XP-302 scanner does not work.

Just mind the fact i marked it as "EXTRA" for some reasons, or is it too much difficult to you to understand the word "EXTRA"?

As long I am doing other tests with USB devices, if they work or not, someone could be interested in it, maybe just for a matter of curiosity, don't you agree?
No? Well, I do not care of your opinion.

It is me who opened this thread and I wrote some extras in it. That's it. And seems me odd, to open other threads for just-on-the-fly curiosity tests.

Feel free not to follow this thread anymore. None forced you to read or care about the extras.

Be sure that if I have more infos of discovering new working devices i will open threads of their own.

Yea, just don't be surprised if this couldn't be fixed in MorphOS because you only reported it here...
I didn't blame you or wanted to be harsh because you were discussing this with users here, I just told you that this is the wrong place if you want it fixed or forward it to MorphOS team. Developers might randomly read some threads here but this is no guarantee that it gets noticed, even more so in an unrelated topic.
