VNC

My Mac Mini is a nice small device that I want to store in a far away place and I thought about using a remote desktop solution for accessing MorphOs. So I installed VNCServer to boot at startup so now when I start it, without Monitor, my VNC client works and I can connect but it is painfull. On my monitor MorpHOS runs on 1920x1080 in 24 colors and this i so slow over VNC.....

My first action was: bring down the resolution of MorphOS but no way... Whatever I try in screens or monitor. MorphOs refuses to try 1280x960. Sure it switches whn I test a new resolution but it won't boot in the new resolution afterward.

So how do I change the resolution in a way that it stays 1280x960?

Any other suggestions on a VNC alternative? VNC can be pretty fast on my network because I use it often but this is slow.

    Thanks

VNC needs a lot of power - even on WindowsPC with only Atom 1.6GHz CPUs it could be painfull......

Do run quicker on MOS-machines try to reduce depth of screen on client. I use 16bit or 8bit, which looks a bit strange, but then it's possible to remote even a EFIKA. Reduce of resolution will also help - on my EFIKA I run 1024x768x16.
I'm useing TwinVNC (http://twinvnc.free.fr) as viewer and VNCServer (from Piru Sintonen)

@amigaharry2, thats exactly my question. How do i put morphos in a lower resolution because I cant change it. Screens doesnt change the resolution and the monitor settings wont change the resolution!

What ever i try: morphos stays in 1920x1280

Hmm.. it should be saved if you go to Screens, double click Ambient and select wanted resolution upper right corner. And click OK in that window and Save in next.

Maybe you have to delete the monitor.prefs and screens.prefs file on your harddrive and reboot to change settings. THen they should be rebuilt. But it sounds strange to me that for all offered resolutions you can not open them. Maybe your monitor or KVM is the bad boy and you should try another one. "Monitors" is the defintioon of resolution but "Screens" is the selection of the monitor capabilities.

I don't know what you have tried till yet, but....

If you open monitor.prefs you will see on left column all resolutions available. Mini has a Radeon 9xxx GraCard which supports different resolutions beginning from 320x200 up. MOS samples Monitor-specs every boot-time and calculates these resolutions, which are compatible to your monitor. It's also possible to create custom resolutions., but there should be no need for that.......
Each of this items, showed in the left column, are available in Screen-prefs and useable for Ambient-Screen or others. If this won't work on your Mini your MOS-installation seems to have some problems.....or data, sampled from your monitor does not allow other resolution (which would be very strange....)

Is this really 24 colours and not maybe 24-bit (= 2^24) colours?

    Hello!

One point too: making some tests with the Efika as server and MorphBook as client, having a light wallpaper for Efika's Ambient sreen helps realy...
Test was made with, e.g. full black, and it was noticable...
A bit for that, and even for "alone" Efika, I'm about to made a set ot very light-but-nice wallpapers...

    Amigalement!
