In a German interview with geit published 3 weeks ago he revealed that the fix was completed.

    Now also there:

"Some of the iBook variations may not boot with MorphOS 3.2. The issue has already been identified and a fix will be available in MorphOS 3.3."

If it was published 3 weeks ago that it was complete why is it not on the download page of MorphOS?

Different issue, but an answer to your question nonetheless:

    Sorry,

I was so caught up in my MorphOS problems I didn't take into account other bugs that need addressing.

It's just that I bought my iBook G4 on the understanding that it was OS3.2 ready as there are even installation instructions listed (do not work for my A1054).

Could someone please explain why a machine (unmodified) listed is unable to have MorphOS3.2 installed.

Geit explained in the interview that even with a specific Mac model there can be subtle, non-documented differences in hardware details (like chip revisions) between machines that require proper treatment by the OS. It seems that with the iBook G4 one (or more?) of such sub-revisions had slipped through their fingers.

This is definitely a setup problem which occurs for some Ibook models and went unnoticed in our 3.2 tests. It is fixed for 3.3 but there is no release date yet since we also want to address some other issues with it.
Please be patient and wait until it is released.

Are you talking days, weeks or months before release? I am a little upset at this situation, I wanted an Amiga laptop which may or may not happen so after checking the MorphOS site realising MorphOS will run on an iBook G4 I go right ahead and buy one only to find out when it arrives that actually MorphOS doesn't work.

I was looking forward to developing for MorphOS, AROS and AmiugaOS and seemed a little easier doing it on a laptop rather than having to turn on any of my big boxes.

As with the Amiga community just knowing it is going to be released is not enough, we need dates or at least a month.

There we go, now I've had a rant I feel much better, I do appreciate all the work you are doing and look forward to trying 3.3 as and when released.

iBook G4 support, targeting following models:
    System ID System Name Model
    PowerBook6,3 iBook G4 12'' A1054
    PowerBook6,3 iBook G4 14'' A1055
    PowerBook6,5 iBook G4 12'' A1054
    PowerBook6,5 iBook G4 14'' A1055
    PowerBook6,7 iBook G4 12'' A1133
    PowerBook6,7 iBook G4 14'' A1134

    (in short: all G4 iBooks)

It still states on the website that it supports all G4 iBooks when this is not the case.

Can the site be changed or OS3.3 released.

It is not fair giving the false impression that 3.2 wilkl work on all iBooks as this was the statement that edged me to buying an iBook.

    @All

I decided to buy myself another iBook G4, this time a 14" with faulty HD.

I managed to change the HD for one I'd bought a while back as a job lot, taking an iBook G4 apart is no easy task.

This now works with MorphOS3.2 but am struggling understanding Ambient.

There are some simple things I need to know, how do I create a new empty folder?

What software do I need to extract LHAs?

-new folder : right click into any ambient-lister and select "new folder"
-extract lha : right click the *.lha last options should be "extract" and "extract to.."
(double click/"open" will allow you to browse the lha as if it were a normal folder)

If your 14" iBook (still don't see the point of buying one of these over the 15" PowerBooks) is NOT the 1.42GHz model you will have the "1 finger" ADB trackpad, better use a proper mouse to get a right click. If it is the 1.42GHz with it's "2 finger" USB trackpad it should be configured as right click when you click the button while having 2 fingers on the pad.

Ambient has a lot of contextual menus. You can try to right-click on a lot of things...
Right-click on a file to rename it.
Right-click on a directory to search for something.
Right-click on any icon to display information about it.
    Etc...

Hey! MorphOS 3.3 installed without a hitch! Unfortunately, I can't get a right mouse click. No other way to get it than a USB mouse? (tried the method mentioned above to no avail.)
