Had my first issue...not sure if its the G5 or the OS.

Upon boot up the system slowed to a crawl. Slow to boot, very jerky mouse cursor movements, slow for Ambient to appear, slow icons...when the system finally got up and running. I got a mdialog box the the BSDSocket was missing. I rebooted, the system booted at normal speed, but still got the BSDSocket message. Rebooted one more time, system was a crawl...keep in mind...I'm running just the OS. I haven't put any add-ons on the machine.

Reinstalled the OS from scratch, had no problems. Posting this using the G5 and OWB.

    Anyone else experience this?

Reinstalled OS. Works great after immediate reboot. Surfed the internet with OWB. Shut down.

Turned on the machine again..Slooooooow. Jerky mouse movements, icons slow to appear, overall system performance is slow and choppy.

    Any thoughts???

    Kronos:

MacOS X.4.11 runs without any problems. Fans run normally.

In MOS 3.2 the fans run a little bit louder.

I have more or less the exact same problem on my Powerbook 5,8 after upgrading to 3.2.

I renamed the MOSSYS: folder and restored the backup of the 3.1 folder, rebooted and still have the same problem, so I renamed Boot:boot.img and restored the backup of the 3.1 boot.img rebooted and everything works perfectly. No lockups, no jerky mouse movements etc.

    Any ideas?

I will have a look in the debug logs to see if I can see anything obvious.

I have quite same problem on G4 MDD with Radeon 9800XT

    My log looks like this:

    DRIVERIO_EVENT: spurious eventmask 0x40000000..no ObjectData
    DRIVERIO_EVENT: IntSignalMask 0x40000000
Radeon: Timeout while waiting for the DMA CCE queue to idle
Radeon: DMA RPTR: 00000800, RPTR: 00000800, write index: 00000900, WPTR: 00000900
Radeon: Timeout while waiting for the DMA CCE queue to idle
Radeon: DMA RPTR: 00000800, RPTR: 00000800, write index: 000009d0, WPTR: 000009d0
    WaitForIdle timeout!!! Access type: 00000002 RPTR 0x800 WPTR 0x9d0 RBBM_STATUS 0x80010140, CP_STAT c0000204
HW acceleration disabled due to fifo timeout

Once i had luck to run glxgears and I had 50FPS more than Radeon 9000, so difference is not so big :)

Is your radeon flashed? Afair - yes.

The only messages in the debug log were regarding Helios so I used Grunch to uninstall it as I don't currently have any Firewire devices plugged in.

After a reboot 3.2 is working perfectly so far after almost an hour of use.

Perhaps removing Helios might help others?

Very 'detailed' description of a problem.. 1st question - what is going on wrong, 2nd question - what is your gfx card.

Sorry, I described config and problem in another thread. I did not repeat it here because it seems it's a common problem between G5 users..

Same problem of Steve and others: "Upon boot up the system slowed to a crawl. Slow to boot, very jerky mouse cursor movements, slow for Ambient to appear, slow icons.."

My GFX board is a 9800XT (genuine MAC version, not a PC flashed one).

There is too much threads recently, definitely ;) I have 9800XT as well but in 2D I have no probs at all. With 3D there is a problem which is known to Bigfoot. To be honest I thought that you have flashed radeon but if it's a proper Mac version you probably need to hold on for a fix.

    @eastone

I think that was already discussed in here (Andreas might come with some links soon ;) but just a quick question - how many people are (or were) developing gfx drivers for Linux and OSX...

But morphos developers are more clever? ;)
I think they can do that ;)

so do you think the problem is the GFX Board? If I take the 9000Pro from the Powermac G4 MDD can I fit it in my G5 and use it until they fix the problem? I also have a Flashed 9800XT that I could try. If I use this do I have to remove the tape I used to disable pins 3 and 11 or can I just fit it and try in AGP4X mode?

The problem can't be connected to the Ram modules (6GB if I remember correctly) or the fact that I use PFS3 filesystem on all my partition (500 buffers for every partition) apart the boot one (HFS)? Don't kill me if I've told stupid thinks..

Radeon 9000 won't fit into G5's AGP. You might try with the reflashed to be able at lest work in 2D environment. Dunno about PIN taping, it's not needed for G5 so better remove the tape.

I don't think that PFS3 or 6GB RAM makes any difference.
