    I know MOS 3.2 isn't out yet but are there any restrictions to getting a G5? I'm talking mainly about graphics cards and audio. My current G5 does not have a ATI video card which was a requirement for a G4 Mac.

    I've been seeing a lot of G5 Mac Towers on Craigslist, eBay and elsewhere at decent prices but if I need to toss the video card and buy an audio card I'd like to know before buying anything so I can take that into account when comparing machines.

    Thanks

    Bounty for G5 support says quite clearly what machines will be supported. Also there is no change in supported gfx cards upcoming list (I mean that only Radeons will be supported as it is now) so you would need to look for some R200-R300 based card.

    Audio will be supported as this is a part of bounty requirements.

    I was surprised to see how many of the ATI video cards are available on the auction sites.

    Getting one should be no problem getting a replacement or picking up a spare.

    Yes.

    Radeon 9650 has R300 family GPU so it may even work already in 2D with current MorphOS release.

    From my understanding, just don't get a "quad core" g5 or a "dual core" G5...

    You want to go after the Dual CPU configurations. All of my G5s all had Radeon 9650s, except for one which had a 6800 Ulta card, but i will be exchanging it with a 9800 XT.

    Good hint that 2.3 CPUs/2.5 dual processor will be supported cause of the various testing they done. It's not to say they are officially supported, its not much different.

    The other day I wanted to see if I could exchange CPUs from a 2.0ghz to a 2.7, and whala! she booted! Though the fans do get to spin up faster because of the different CPUs being put in. Since MorphOS will be supporting control of the fans, should be able to turn em down a bit.

    Just be sure if you buy a 2.0ghz, that it has the 8 memory slots. I dont think it will hurt things if its the 4 ram slot board, but just to keep things consistent with the 2.7ghz boards being the same. 8-)

    I am tired at the moment so everything I typed might have many spelling error and ideas lol.. Good Night!

    I picked up a G5, "A1047 PowerMac 7,3" Dual 2.0Ghz, ATI 9600 video which is the spec mentioned on the bounty. Hopefully, there's no issues...

    Yes, as I mentioned it's listed in bounty requirements. So far we are testing 3 machines - Early 2005 model with 2x2.0Ghz, 2x2.5Ghz and 2x2.7Ghz.

    @CountRaven

    As MorphOS supports R300 based cards already (in 2D mode) they will work with G5. For example I was using my 9800XT with PowerMac G4 and was working fine.

    Same here, but as I already have a Powerbook, I'll have to give away my two G4 Power macs.
