I just tried to install MorphOS 3.0 on my powerbook, but ran into some problems... Hopefully someone here can help me.

I want to have both OSX and MorphOS on the machine.. i did a fresh install making 3 partitions.. the guide said i should make the first partionen 60mb, but for some reason MacOS won't let me choose a size lower than 876MB... (even if I write 0,1 GB it will not get lower in size) Will this cause any problems?

After installing OSX i booted into the morphOS install CD.. i tried to follow the guide, but each time i try to save the changes in the partitioner software it removes all my changes.

Any idea why this happens? I will give it another try tomorrow :) i'm looking forward to trying out MorphOS and will register two machines as soon as i get it up and running.

I also have two G4 PowerBook's, one is a model 5.8, 15", 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook w/320gb hard drive, and the other is a model 5.9, 17" 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook w/120gb hard drive.

I have tried to set up the correct partitions on the 320gb hard drive of the 15" PowerBook, but the installation of MorphOS3.0 does not recognize the partition as being the correct format, even though MacOSX shows the partition as being correct. I used the MacOSX Leopard installation DVD to do the partitioning and used the same steps that I used previously on my 17" PowerBook when I installed the beta version of MorphOS3.0 to show it at last year's AmiWest Show, but for some reason, the same partitioning steps are not working on the 15" PB's 320gb hard drive.

You can try a Live version of a Linux PPC installation CD, or DVD that has the Linux partitioning tools that are described in the dual boot guide. I am not sure you will be any more successful than with using the Leopard installation DVD.

My temporary solution was to just use my 17" PBook for running MorphOS3.0 on the entire 120gb hard drive, and to run MacOSX on my 15" PBook. That will be okay for me until I can complete a dual boot installation on my 15" PBook.

Inability to create a partition smaller than 1 GB is a "feature" of OS X Leopard. There is no problem with this other than wasting disk space. I have succesfully set up a dualboot system using Leopard DVD and then following the dualboot guide.

You have to use older version of OSX installation to be able to use 0,1GB trick. It won't work with OSX 10.5.

Can you give us a little bit more details about steps taken under MorphOS installer? Do you use manual option not the automatic one?

You might as well try to partition the harddisk within MorphOS HDconfig once you have OSX installed.
OS X usually leaves 128MB unused inbetween partitions and inbetween the leading partition table and the first partition. You can use that space in front of the actual OS X partition to insert a 128MB HFS boot partition (make sure not to move the OS X partition) for the MorphOS boot.img and related bootconfigs there. To get it identified by the IWizard installer, it has to be called "boot", though.
The other MorphOS partitions can be placed after the actual OS X partition using SFS filesystem for example.
You might need to format the partitions using Ambient once they are created (quick format will do).
If OS X used the full HD space to install its system (and didn't go for multiple partitions there), you can use the OS X partition tool to resize the system partition without losing data. Be aware that this isn't possible with MorphOS' HDconfig.

Agreed, this might look a bit complex (and not really the proposed way to install MorphOS) but worked fine for me when I wanted to keep the OS X partition for running it once in a while.

I was indeed pressing the icon that shows the Harddisk to save the changes - may I ask what the real purpose of this icon is?

Now that i pressed the magnifier-glass i was able to save the changes - one step closer! :D

It seems as if the large MorphOS partition fails to change filesystem - the partion-program says SFS, but in Mounter the partition still shows up as HFS+.

I did manage to change the small partition to HFS however.

After several hours of trying and failing i still can't manage to install MorphOS

I have been able to format and mount the Boot-partiton. But the System partition fails to be recognised. Even if I cange to SFS and save the changes, the partition will not show up as SFS in Mounter. So no matter what i do, i'm not able to mount the partition.

I have tried to make re-partition both using Ubuntu and OSX, but the same problems occurs when installing MorphOS.

I guess it is the same problem that AmigaDave experienced... the installation of MorphOS3.0 does not recognize the partition as being the correct format.

Is there any way to fix this? or is the only option to remove OSX and use it as a morphOS only-machine?

What are you using to format your System: partition to SFS format?

I am assuming that you are using the MorphOS3.0 installation CD by booting from it and using the HDConfig and Mounter tools found on it.

I have not tried again in a few months, since I was trying to install the beta version of MorphOS3.0 after swapping the original hard drive with a new 320gb hard drive. It is low on my priority list of things to do, since I have two G4 PowerBook's and have MorphOS3.0 installed and working well on one of them. Eventually I want to get both MacOSX and MorphOS3.0 running on one or both of my G4 PowerBook's. Then I might consider selling my backup G4 PowerBook, but as I already wrote, that is low on my priority list of things to do, so all I will do is wish you good luck, and ask that you post your solution here when you do figure out what is preventing you from being able to complete the dual boot installation, so others, like me will see what to do to fix their installation attempts.
