    With 32MB, you can easily run out of memory with enhanced display enabled, especially with a large resolution. So i suggest you go to system preferences -> screens -> ambient (or any other screen you use), uncheck "enhanced display" and save.

    @Fab:
    You were right, it was a VRAM issue, now it works perfectly. I also got quake3 to work, I just had to lower the resolution :-D Thank you very much!
    This is just like television, only you can see much further.

    Thanks to Fab and the guys in #morphos IRC, I've sorted my earlier issues with my 3.0 install. Network performance seems to have improved a lot since I manually configured IP/DNS settings, it's pretty respectable now, seems there is something about auto DHCP on my router it didn't get along with.

    My issues with Wookiechat were solved by deleting and disabling it's logging output.

    Thoroughly enjoying using 3.0 daily now!

    Multiview doesn't seem to work properly with Amigaguide docs though. Can anyone else verify this?

    Clicking a hypertext link in the document doesn't take me anywhere, I need to use forward/back buttons at the top.

    @danwood

    Links in AmigaGuide documents are not working if you are using 68k amigaguide.library. This is fixed to 3.1 release.

    In mean time you can workaround this by disabling 68k amigaguide.library and use native library shipped with MorphOS.

    Ah ok, I don't think I ever changed the installed library though, maybe a third party app did.

    Misquote? And for the sake of a joke, shouldn't that rather read "I have said nothing"? ;-)

    Maybe similar issue as with TinyGL?

    The issue with MPlayer is known. I can upload a fixed version if needed. The issue is actually in recent ffmpeg code: they execute inconditionally some altivec code in the sample format conversion routine, now.

    :-P The MorphOS version of Mplayer has some trouble on the Efika with a low res h264/ac3 .mp4 video, might be nonstandard with a dolby digital track in there, can be played back though with the -nosound flag.
    The second clip is Hitler hates Prometheus :-) 480p h264/aac in a .flv container and MPlayer won't play it whatever I do.
    Regular xvids and mp3s play fine, iTunes AAC music does not. Does this mean that some (even low end) media configurations will only work on G4s?
    EDIT: Fab replied too quickly 8-)

    Redownload latest version of mplayer at my site: http://fabportnawak.free.fr/mplayer/MPlayer-1.0-svn-2012.04.18.lha
    It should fix your issue.

    Do some of you use modern art blanker from amigazeux ? If yes how does it work on your computer ? On my peg2 I only have little points instead of psychedelic balls of increasing and decreasing size, like as this one in 'cosmic voyage' present on morphos iso.

    I have a ntpsync script under wbstartup to set clock in correct time on my Powermac G4 MDD, cause using OSX sets the clock 3 hours back.

    ntpsync -d180 -c ntp1.kolumbus.fi

    <edit>figured out that script and command had same name, that's reason for a loop </edit> :oops:

    MorphOS doesn't like to cold boot on my machine -- usually takes 3-5 tries before it makes it past the initial boot graphic. It warm boots just fine. I haven't noticed anyone else having this problem -- any ideas?

    It also seems to keep losing the time zone (I think, anyway -- date is always correct, but the hour is always off by a few). I haven't noticed any problems on the Mac side, but I'm wondering if my pram battery is dead/dying. Does MorphOS "require" a functioning pram battery?

    I also noticed that def_icons don't have a second state! Is there a setting somewhere that I missed? Perhaps something I can put in the Ambient advanced pref file?

    Anyway -- I'm having a blast! It's been a long time since I played around with MorphOS! :-)

    Well, between MorphOS and MacOS the time is different by one hour, AFAIR. I just use SetClockNTP, so the time gets set each time the system boots.

    You need to enable the png double icon option in ambient->icons.

    @Geit

    AFAIK it's 1 hour (actually 2 hours atm due to summer-time) for us living in central europe and OSX allways useing GMT as base.

    So people living in eastern europe or america would see even bigger offsets.

    Ambient supports several icon formats : png icons, dualpng icons, glowicons32, classic newicons, glowicons and so on.
    The default deficons set is png icons, so if you want dual states, you'll have to replace them (sys:prefs/presets/deficons by default).

    You can also replace a deficon just by dropping a new one on the icon area in mimetype edition window (ambient settings -> mime)

    It's easy to solve/workaround : just use a different time zone in OSX, to compensate the time difference.

    That's probably what's going on with the time -- I'll take geit's suggestion and set it at boot time.

    That Ambient setting controls the display of drawers/apps with their own icon, but not "def_icons". I'm using DualPNG icons (of course) and would like the def_icons to display the alternate state.

    Anyone have any ideas about the cold boot problem?

    Do you still get that cold boot problem if you change the default OS to OS X or alt-boot into either X or MorphOS?

    I've had a number of boot issues on my pc that may have been due to a combination of cold weather, drive integrity and bios settings. I had forgotten setting the hard drive as the first boot device and it seems that a truly cold start (both cold weather and power-on cold start - sorry for the lame pun!) prevented it from being ready for initial bios reads and for resume from suspend. Setting it back in the queue behind removable and cd/dvd devices seems to have at least improved initial boot reliability.
    PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)
