    Hi,

I just read the news everywhere in relation to Apple winning a litigation against HTC in Taiwan due breach of a so-called 647 patent, but then I thought given so many boards asking about prior art, doesn't YAM do this? Or is it a plugin that does it for AmigaOS? Turning URLs and Email addresses into clickable ones that weren't specified as such in the original text data?

um... actually doesn't this forum software also do it? it 'tried' to turn the URL above into a clickable link - even though it didn't do a good job in this case.

It's not a matter of prior art, it's a matter of expensive counsels. The patent system is totally out of control and has gone nuts completely. There are tons of patents that are just trivial or void due to prior art *if* courts would just start to use common sense instead of dissecting even half letters. It's only a thing of money and securing claims.

btw: It's not YAM, but openURL that actually does the trick. Dunno how old open url is (V1.0 is from 2001). Thing is, beside openURL and forum software there's plenty of softwares that do that. But that doesn't interest Apple o HTC or the lawyers, they just play their game.
