    i view the new pci.library form elbox and is possible to add this option, using memory gfx radeon as memory fast ram for low memory morphos system like efikasĀ“s?

    PS: i think can be slowly than fast ram but can be usefull for a future update

    thanks and happy new year to all morphos users

    <cough>It's too hard.</cough> Ahem! I mean - It can't be done. Other things are more important and besides, this is the 21st century and we don't do hardware hacks anymore.
    PPC assembly ain't so bad... ;)

    It is already done, or partially done. See the MorphOS release notes, I think it was included in the release of 2.4, or 2.5, maybe earlier.

    It's not, not even "partially" (whatever that would mean).

    Seem like a potential use for the extra 128MB on Radeon 9XXX cards.

    No, currently on Efika less system memory is used, as the graphics driver tries to keep as much data in gfx memory as possible.

    This has nothing to do with using the gfx memory as system memory.

    Normally the gfx memory is the smallest and the system tries to use system memory and copy data into gfx memory when needed. On Efika the gfx driver simply tries not to use the system memory unless GFX memory runs out.

    Adding real system memory by reducing the available gfx memory is quite some work. The most useful and efficient way to use gfx memory is probably to use it as ram disk.

    Remember the gfx memory is quite slow. On classic hardware the speed difference between system and gfx memory is quite small, while it's on Efika quite big.

    @Geit,

    to be precise, the graphics memory on a Radeon isn't slow, but reading from it with the CPU is very slow.

    Tell me one thing... I'd say the, for example, Radeon driver is the same for every computer, but it does one thing or another depending the computer it runs on. Aren't the tricks done in the Efika also good for any other computer?
