Hi,

I started some weeks ago to develop an irc client which is currently in a quite usable state (I only connect with it now on freenode #morphos for ex.)

Currently, it has custom rendered chat with configurable colors/font, copy/paste, network threaded, multiple server handling, last read line ala xchat and some other nice features.

I'd like to get some insight about what features are a must have for you.

my top 5:
- Arexx Port
- private chats (DCC)
- file transfer
- chat logging
- input history (cursor up/down for previous/next test, like in AmigaShell)

What can it add compared to AMIRC ? Or what does AMIRC not have ? Don't get me wrong, it's an honest question... I just know how the get to the morphos channel, but that's more or less all I know about IRC. AMIRC seems to have a lot of options and I heard about wookiechat (that I never used ) ...

AMIRC doesn't have option to buy a key anymore ;)

Tcheko: basic AMIRC options would be nice.

I don't know why but I cannot get used to WookieChat.

Diversity? A new software that is actively supported/developed? Something that implements latest protocol natively (like SDCC & UTF8 for ex.)?

Some points for a new client:

- WookieChat is no more supported for MorphOS and uses external MUI classes that need to be installed. Not a big deal but some of these classes are known for stability issues. Also, W.C. outputs lot of debug about group rendering problem.

- AmIRC, full featured (bloated?) client. No more supported/developed. It needs external script to handle UTF8 charset for example. It stills need a key to work more than 30 minutes and such key isn't available for purchase anymore. No multiple server support. you need to launch mulriple instance of it.

Support for character set transcoding, like charset.plugin for AmIRC.

I can only agree with the way you explain it...

Altough pretty expensive to my opinion, it gives you a valid key for AMIRC.

Well to be honest I tought IRC was something old in general that didn't really need up-to-date client. I actually never used it untill I started using MorphOS

Chat Logging, DCC pvt chats, and file transfers.

What I am missing in AmIRC is SSL and /dccserver support

A few more words about charset transcoding: make sure it will be possible to set/change charset per each chat window (or at least server). Some servers and channgels use utf8, but some still the old iso-8859-x encodings.

At least, i could implement some heuristics to detect charset encoding. This is a real impressise process with random results but could at least improve somewhat the situation.

As the charset is matter of the client, I could add as well some charset context menu entry in the nickname list to set correct encoding if any problem occurs with a client.

Not so much to do with PPC or 68k.

I have looked for a couple of hours for my netconnect cd but i cant find it. I dont know where most of my amiga stuff is since i went windows 6 years ago and now I am just returned to amiga.

I suppose there is no way to extract the serial from my a4000 install?

According to some messages in the English Amiga Board thread I linked to, the keyfile conversion process doesn't work anymore anyway.

The version of Amirc on the netconnect3 cd does work ok under morphos afair, although it's a little old. If you can't find your cd, let me know your address and i'll send you a replacement.
