How do I set up my Efika (MorphOS 2.4) to run on a dial-up connection? I have had it running on broadband but with so many in the family enjoying broadband it is starting to cost too much.

Dialup as in putting an analog modem to the serial port and start listening to those beeps (somehow I miss them ...) ?

Well, serial-port of the Efika isn't really supported, but you might get away with some USB-serial adapter.

How that would end up being cheaper is beyond me ....

Or do you mean dialup as in only connect to broadband when it's really needed ? Well thats something you would have to fix in your router.

I couldn't stand them. That's why I muted them with the appropriate modem init string command ('ATM0' IIRC).

Thankyou, yes I'm talking about an analogue modem connected to the serial port. I don't mind the beeps too much. On an average month we spend 4x the amount on our broadband connection than we do for dial-up. Dial-up is slower but that doesn't matter for some of our favourite sites and our email.

I'll look for a usb to serial adapter ... or would there be a USB modem that someone could recommend to run on MorphOS. Thanks.

I'm not sure those usb <> serial adapters work. At least the ones I tried did not. Also, to get modems to work, you'd have to switch to Miami.
