    Hi,

My aim, since I discovered Basilisk II, was to plug some extra apps into MorphOS. Well AmigaOS4 has AmiCygnix, there, we've got Basilisk II :-)

At the beginning, I was told that only Mac System 7.5 is supported (which is free now). It turned out recently, that Basilisk II also supports OS8.1 I'm getting a CD copy now, please don't fight me on ebay :-)

Anyway I still an't clear about ROM files. Gotta sort this out somehow.

Anyway I set up a pirated OS8.1 and then searched for Mac software in the following sites:

    http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/68k_software
    http://www.macintoshgarden.org/
    http://www.pure-mac.com/

I also used kind help in the specific Basilisk II forum here:

    http://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6

Anyway the spreadsheet is what I was searching for.

I yet found a reader, proprietary trial, known to me anyway - IcExcel, but hey, that's something, man!

    http://www.panergy-software.com/buy/download.html

They provide direct OS7.1-8.5 binary so as long as one has the rom file and OS7.5, anything is legal. I also will try searching for fully featured spreadsheets.

Please guys, gimme ideas on what apps do we actually need?

Hope someone will find it attractive info.

    Best,
    DD

A Mac emulator is a box and thus programs running inside are worse integrated with the host OS (i.e. not at all) than programs running via AmiCygnix. Besides, OS4 has Basilisk II as well:

I know, just wanted to compare this kind of extention to some other AmigaOS-related entity.

Please try IcXL if you need xls file reader (it also exports to text). All you need is:
    - Basilisk II (I use v.1.2, hosted here also)
    - MacOS 7.5 (freed from Apple)
    - proper ROM file (well...)
    - Stuffit Expander 5.5 (free)
    - then IcXL trial (link above, 30 days eval) - I'm 90% sure they wouldn't charge the actual price tag for such an ancient version :-)

I know, just wanted to point out that your comparison is quite flawed because it misses to state the obvious conceptual difference ;-)

If you really want to, you can just download any available 68k X server from aminet and use it...

You know, X servers aren't really new thing at all for Amiga, they have been publically available even long before MorphOS project was started.

I didn't mean to use Xserver actually. I meant external functionality bridge. What's a big deal you guys?

Isn't that exactly what "AmiCygnix" is? (and the 68k equivalent it's based on)

Just recompile whatever you want to run on it? :-P

And yes, running "alien" X-server in amiga-like environment IS useless - just like you said. Better just run whatever you need on f.ex. linux. Or concentrate on a proper port, which have "alien" dependencies removed.

I have tried xlhtml to view excel files as html and it works correctly on both MorphOS and AmigaOS3.

    Hi,

I spoke with the said Panergy Software company lately.

Despite that IcXL is priced as 19.95$, they declared that the old OS 7.1-8.5 version might be freed for MorphOS community exclusively.

So I think this is good news as when I see the spreadsheet unassigned bounty here. From now on, MorphOS users CAN read MS Excel files (prior to 2007/2010 editions) and export them to a text.

The only thing which is needed is a set-up Basilisk II environment. There's a need for the manual, I will try to compile one on my own but this won't happen fast.

Anyway the said IcXL file on the site is a trial version. I was given the code that unlocks it. Feel free to PM me for the code.

Also, the person from Panergy asked me for a favour instead, to place ads of their docXConverter, Windows / MacOSX software for converting docx/xlsx files to rtf/csv files.

They asked me to place an ad like this:

    Quote:

icExcel 1.x courtesy of Panergy software maker of docXConverter

Is it possible to make a banner on this site? I mean at least for a while?
