Just a quick post to say I've just bought a couple more mac minis to sell on as preinstalled MorphOS/OSX dual boot machines. Haven't got them yet but I'm hopefull they should be quite nice ones. Of course you never know for sure until they turn up...

I really like your initiative. This is something that helps to attract new users. And new users is what we need. Thumbs up for you!

Seems like they are faster in everythng. I cannot compare to PegII (don't have one) but even in the only disciplie I thought my Peg1 could win, it failed. Namely the hdd performance. The Mini with its 2,5" hdd outperformed my Peg with the 3.5" 7.2krpm hdd by a good 30%.
The cpu is faster anyway and teh RAM, too. Only thing where I could imagine a Peg can be faster is with gfx operations, because faster gfx cards are possible.

"memtest vmem disable" can give better result on a Pegasos2 than on a Mac mini.
Specially the read test is 50% faster in my case.

I used to own Peg 2 and now i own MacMini 1.5Ghz. I have to say I can see the better speed in any aspect I'm using MorphOS for..

    @MarK

It's not a real benchmark, but here are a few practical results (Mac mini 1.42GHz):
    - Boot speed is even shorter than on Pegasos2 (excluding the Openfirmware stuff): about 8-10s on that slow 2"5 disk.
    - Quake3 in normal presets scores 78fps (~40 on Peg2 with similar gfx card)
    - MPlayer can play most 720p h264 files without framedrop (using -lavdskiploopfilter=all). Try that on Peg2. :)
    - MAME runs about 1.5 faster in general (Street Fighter III runs at 100% :))
    - OWB (and Flash in particular) feels quite better too.

And in general, everything runs 1.5-2 times faster, anyway. So if you think your Peg2 was a little slow for some tasks, Mac mini can be good to have.

Maybe you all underestimated the extent to which the Apple hardware is optimized. Say, how many % of yous consider OSX as top mainstream desktop? :-) There must be something causing it, apart of the system alone (I mean Mac specs vs. PC specs, been much comparable for say OSX Tiger machine and an XP machine...)

Also, I think it is nice to observe many of Morphosians swich from Peg2 to the Minis. This enables AmigaOS fans a bunch of high-end and relatively cheap HW they can run AOS4 on. Besides, this causes that Hyperion can eventually feel they're a part of the market, they're not THE market anymore (I mean HW policy you know).
Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
    Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)
