Regarding MLDonkey crashing due to mbufs, try editting SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/sys/net/Netstack.config and change
MBUF_CONF MAXMEM=4096
to
MBUF_CONF MAXMEM=8192
Works for me (tm)
