Process priority/executive

I just downloaded MorphOS for my Mac Mini. Looks pretty cool and I'd like to play more...

Anyway I'm copying some files, playing an ogg and browsing on OWB (nice!). I'm getting a lot of whole screen flicker (when selecting OWB window), jerking pointer and skipping audio. Seems to be that OWB takes a lot of CPU and the scheduler is going a poor job. I remember this being the case on the AmigaOS and that installing tools like executive for dynamic priority really helped things out. Is there an equivelent of this for MorphOS?

I guess what I'm really looking for is some way of prioritizing the mouse control and the audio. So that even if the CPU is busy I can still hear my tunes and control the thing.

    Thanks,

    Mark

My guess would be more on issues in the GFX-system...

Could it be that your Mini only has 32MB VMen (read a non 1.5GHz-model)and that your running a big 24bit screen with double/tripple buffering ?

    In that case:

Choose a 16Bit mode and if that doesn't help deselect double/tripple buffering in "Enhanced display engine"

Atleast I got rid of similar issues this way (was running 1920x1200x24 on a 64MB-VMEM Mini).

Thanks - that definitely improved things. I do indeed have a "low end" mini - 1.25GHz G4 (so yes 32MB VRAM).

Not getting the jerky pointer or screen flicker now (turned off double/triple buffering and in 16-bit). OWB is still fairly slow (but good!), but in its beta state thats expected I guess.

I am still getting skipping audio (the ambient soundplayer). I'll see if I can find a pre-buffer setting or something. It might be because I'm doing a large copy and its struggling to read the file from HD.

    Thanks,

About sound playback, the internal ambient player might not be optimal regarding buffer settings. But you can also use any other external sound player instead.

Now, i'm a bit surprised you say OWB is fairly slow (it's not in beta state, btw), unless you happen to be victim of some network slowness, which is then quite unrelated to OWB itself.

Runs much better now I'm not copying gigs of files around... I'm quite enjoying it. Now if I could only find some devtools. MorphOS developer connection is dead and I can't find much else. All I'm after is a recent g++ build... 4.4 would be nice:-)

Wanted to build asap player as a plugin for the ambient sound player. Can't find docs on plugins for that or a compiler - oh well...
