Thanks for the advice. I have already followed the route you suggested. Unfortunately the Ubuntu repositories for 8.10 PPC no longer appear to be onlline. @Brumiga suggested that only the UK repository now has the necessary PPC files? (see below) I am currently travelling and will try this out when I get back home next week. I did managed to install the 7.04 version which worked fine. I attempted to update to version 7.10 from the CD. It seemed to work OK but the USB keyboard & mouse were not recognised after the installation so I reverted to 7.04.

"You can only use ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ from united kingdom, no other ports are available for other countries."
