I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize for the small mess I helped create. I originally didn't mean to make things so hostile but what is done is done and I hope you can forgive most of it. Yeah, I'm still interested in Quark and the QBox but not the ABox. Maybe some day I'll change my mind about the ABox but not today.

What bothers me the most about all this is the whole "red" vs "blue" thing that is STILL going on around here and other web forums. Guys, the war is over. It really is over. When an AmigaOS user posts at MorphZone or a MorphOS user posts at Amigans.net let's not forget this. Each web site has its focus and that is that. Let's not immediately assume one or the other is "trolling" or "invading" or whatever word you want to use. We can't all be this insecure can we? Use whatever computer system you want but don't assume some guy is a troll just because they use another computer system and are asking questions about your fav. system of the day.

I think I have the answers I need for now. Luckily for Piru, I don't plan to buy a copy of MorphOS right now. But watch out Piru, if you add a QBox I'll be lining up for a copy. 8-)

    Take it easy guys. Peace.

    simple things, simple minds.

has anyone around here noticed the state of the global economy and how it has the potential to wipe out your entire way of life? (including the hobby on which you base your silly little "blue vs red" war!)

Amiga is a fun hobby, once things begin turning into a "war" - it's probably time to drop it and focus on more important issues.

get your head out of the sand and start living in the real world.

I did not find anything trollish in your posts opposite to what some others did find(discussed for example at aw.net). Maybe I am more liberal than others when it comes to moderating, I don't know. Anyhoo, feel safe here and post *your* opinions, don't let them get you.

Dissent can be healthy. Post away, but consider this, Morphos evovled into a stable OS following its current course. Does the next step have to be a complete change (as represented by Q-box) or could it evolve further into something more powerful and still retain its compatibility?

I think your original post about the qbox was fine. However the problem was your question was answered straight away, yet you kept saying it wasn't which is what got people going. You may not have liked the answer or from what I can gather be dissapointed that the qbox isn't coming any time soon but you did get an answer. One that made complete sense to boot. As for your questions about where does the money go, surely you know better than this? Individuals, groups or private companies financial affairs are not yours, mine or anyone elses business nor should they be. Besides there's nothing secretive going on. The morphos team don't ask you to send the money in assorted used bills in a brown envelope to a po box in switzerland do they? They do the same as hundreds of companies that sell on ebay do they take paypal. Are you going to ask all those ebay sellers what they do with their money? Some of them will be taking a lot more than $75,000.

As for the whole "red vs. blue" nonsense. It really gets me down. I have registered Morphos 2 for both my PegII and Efika and also have AOS4.1 for the PegII and SAM440ep. I use them both and like them both. I think over all Morphos probably just shaves it (if running on the Peg, Efika doesn't really do it justice) as to which one is the more advanced but it's not a knockout blow. And I can understand why some people would prefer to use AOS4.1. What I can't understand is some users on either "side" claiming that their chosen OS is "loads better" than the other. It's not as simple as that (it never is).

... says the guy who had the following to say about the different Amiga camps: "Can't we all just get along? No. That is clearly never going to happen."

I don't think that is a good example, as in that message you are quoting, I think ssolie is actually referring to others that can't let go of the red vs blue war, not his own personal view. There are probably other postings of his that may incriminate him more, but I am willing to accept his apology and move on. It is the moderators job here to decide what future postings are out of line, not mine.

I was over the top on some things which created a more hostile environment than I would have liked. Sometimes I let the web forum trolls get to me and I know I shouldn't. Hey, at least I won't be a coward and ask for all my posts to be deleted, etc. What is done is done and I stand by it even it some of it was rubbish.

    A very interesting question.

Having worked on AmigaOS, I know how much work is involved in dragging along legacy code while trying to build something new and evolve it into something more appropriate for a modern OS. Yes, you gain the countless hours of bug fixes in the legacy code but you also gain the hidden bugs and compatibility nightmare which is legacy code. With MorphOS, I saw the opportunity to start again and go forward by stuffing the Amiga API into a box and evolving the real OS (e.g. Q-Box). When Mac OS X did this with OS 9 (stuffing it into a box) it worked well for them in the end. When Apple tried to evolve Mac OS 9 we all know the end result of that effort. Since AmigaOS was going along a similar path as Apple (hopefully without the spectacular failure) I had hoped that MorphOS would take a different path. Instead, I'm finding out MorphOS is going along an identical path by evolving the A/Box which means it offers me nothing new or different in philosophy or software architecture.

At this point, I think it would be very interesting to hear what the creator of MorphOS thinks of all this A/Box effort and whether it will lead to anything. Has anybody tried getting an interview out of laire lately? It would be a really interesting read.

    Addendum:

Laire even has another MZ account since October 2006, resembling his real name:

    https://morph.zone/userinfo.php?uid=2171

He used that one in July 2008, which went unnoticed by me (and most others it seems) :-)

Andreas again amazes me: It seems he randomly reviews forgotten threads at the smalles sight of relation to anything being spoken about today.
Like I said many times, Mr. Wolf is an invaluable asset for this site, I guess any other forum would love having him there.
By the way, right after you mention Laire's unused account here, he has started using it!

It may seem that way but that's not the way it works ;-)

    > right after you mention Laire's unused account here, he has started using it!

Actually, it was the other way round. I saw his yesterday's posting and thus got aware of that RSchmidt account. Instantly, I remembered this thread and updated information therein accordingly. And as I mentioned, Laire already started using that account in July 2008. But I think you already knew that ;-)
