Thanks for the reply,
I am usinga DVI to VGA adapter and my Dell 20" widescreen LCD display. The native resolution is 1680 x 800, or something close to that. I think I had tried that once and the icons and text were too small for me to read, even with my glasses. I then tried to use a couple of other resolutions for the Ambient/Workbench screen and had some trouble. Some of them did not display anything at all, just a gray screen. I then used the 1024 x 768 resolution and settled on that.
I will just have to keep trying different things until I get it right. I was hoping to learn that someone else had already had a similar problem and found a way to fix it and give me his/her tips.
I could add the native VGA output to my Radeon 9250 card and punch a hole in my EFIKA case for it, if using it would produce better results than using the DVI to VGA adapter.
Edit: I did notice the same problem on a different monitor, a CRT, so I don't think it is because of the display not being that of the native 16xx X 8xx LCD resolution.
